Can you use a cheat sheet on a Zoom interview?

2. How to Use a Cheat Sheet Discreetly

• Keep It Simple:
  • Use a single page with easy-to-read bullet points and headings.
• Position It Strategically:
  • Place it next to your screen or at eye level to avoid obvious looking down.
• Digital Notes:
  • If preferred, keep a minimized digital document open near the camera on your computer.

3. Practice Using It

• Rehearse mock interviews while using your cheat sheet to ensure it doesn’t become a distraction.
• Familiarize yourself with the content so you only glance at it when necessary.

4. Avoid Over-Reliance

• Don’t Read Verbatim:
  • Reading directly from your cheat sheet makes you look unprepared.
• Engage Actively:
  • Maintain eye contact by looking at the camera and interacting naturally with the interviewer.

5. When to Use It

• For Reference:
  • Use it during natural pauses, such as when you’re asked to share examples or ask questions.
• For Clarity:
  • Refer to your cheat sheet briefly if you need to recall specific details.

Example Approach

• If asked about a specific achievement:
  • Glance at your cheat sheet and say, "Let me reference my notes to ensure I provide the most relevant example."

Conclusion

Using a cheat sheet in a Zoom interview is acceptable as long as it’s used subtly and effectively. Focus on being prepared, practicing beforehand, and maintaining a professional demeanor to make a strong impression.
