How Long Does It Take to Hear Back After a Duolingo Interview?

Duolingo's reported process is about three weeks. Candidates report an average near 22 days from the first contact to a decision. Recruiting is reported as responsive at every stage.

Duolingo publishes no wait time for each round. Per stage reports are scarce, so treat the table below with care. Those rows are the typical pattern for companies of this size, not confirmed.

Timeline by Stage

StageTypical waitWhat is happening
Application to first replyOne to two weeksA recruiter checks your background against the role
Online assessment to resultA few days to one weekYour timed attempt is scored and reviewed
Technical screen to resultA few days to one weekTwo engineers sat in the round, and both judge you
Between onsite roundsSame day, or a few daysFour sessions are scheduled around engineers
Onsite to decisionAbout one weekThe team compares notes across all four rounds
Application to offer, end to endAbout three weeks reportedRecruiting is reported as responsive at each step

Match your wait to the right round. Candidates report a recruiter screen, an online assessment, and one or two technical screens.

The onsite then has four parts: pair programming, code review, whiteboard design, and a coffee chat. All the rounds are named in What is the Duolingo interview process like?

Does Duolingo Send Rejection Emails?

Your recruiter gives the decision. Candidates report an email from that recruiter, for both outcomes. The reported speed is good compared with larger companies.

Two people judge each technical round. Duolingo runs its technical rounds with two engineers present. One asks the questions and one observes, and both are judging you.

Feedback is not promised. Duolingo publishes no feedback policy for candidates. Expect a decision without per round scores.

The coffee chat is easy to misread. It is informal, friendly, and short. It is still an evaluated round, so a warm final conversation is not an offer.

How to Follow Up

Wait one week after your final round. Then send one short email to your recruiter.

Hi [name], thank you for the time on Monday. I enjoyed the code review round and the questions about learner streaks. Could you tell me where I am in the process and what happens next? I am glad to send anything else you need.

Send it once. If a week passes with no reply, send one more note. Duolingo recruiting is reported as responsive, so one question is reasonable.

Can You Reapply, and How Soon?

Duolingo publishes no waiting period. No public reapply policy was found for engineering roles.

Waiting about six months is the usual advice at this size. That is typical for companies of this size, not confirmed.

Use the time on the two rounds few people practice. One is pair programming and one is code review. Both reward habits you can build in a month.

Language choice is worth fixing too. Duolingo standardized its backend on Python, and interviews generally expect it. If Python is not your daily language, train in it before you apply again.

What to Wear

Most of these rounds happen on video. Candidates report a virtual loop, including the coffee chat. The reported dress culture is casual.

A plain top in one solid color is enough. No tie and no jacket are needed. Busy patterns are the thing to avoid on camera.

Check your camera and microphone the day before. Two interviewers join the technical rounds, so make sure you can see and hear both. Use a quiet room with a lamp facing you.

For an office visit, the same clothes work. Bring photo identification, and arrive a little early.
