How Long Does It Take to Hear Back After a Sierra Interview?

Most candidates report two to five weeks from the first Sierra call to a decision. Glassdoor lists an average of about 21 days across 48 submitted interviews. Waits between stages are short. Recruiters usually name the next step at the end of each stage. Rejections arrive faster than offers. Several candidates report a short, standard rejection email about two days after a stage. Scheduling is the slow part, not the decision.

One detail changes your planning. Sierra rebuilt its engineering loop and wrote about the new format in public. Confirm the current stages with your recruiter before you book any dates.

Timeline by Stage

StageTypical waitWhat is happening
After you applyA few days to two weeksA recruiter reads the application and checks role fit
After the recruiter screenAbout 2 to 5 daysScheduling the next technical stage
After the technical screenAbout 2 to 5 daysA pass, or a short rejection email
After the take home projectA few daysInterviewers run your project before the review round
After the onsite loopAbout a weekInterviewers compare notes, then the recruiter calls

The take home wait has a known reason. Candidates send the project a few days before the review round.

Interviewers run the code and read it first. Then they discuss it with you in the review round.

Does Sierra Send Rejection Emails?

Yes. Candidates report a short, standard rejection email, often about two days after a stage. Some report a rejection within two days of the first screen.

The email rarely carries detailed feedback. Written feedback on a technical round is uncommon at a company of this size.

Recruiter contact is the part candidates praise. One Glassdoor report describes a three week process with steady contact from the recruiter. If a week passes with no word, a short message is reasonable and normal.

How to Follow Up

Send the note about five business days after a round. Keep it to four sentences. Ask for a date, not for a verdict.

Hi [Name], thank you for the [round name] on [date]. I enjoyed the discussion about [one specific topic]. I wanted to ask whether there is an update on the next step. If the decision is still a few days away, could you tell me when to expect it?

Send one note. If silence continues for another week, send one more. Then stop and continue with your other applications.

Can You Reapply, and How Soon?

Sierra does not publish a reapply rule. Typical for companies of this size, not confirmed: wait about six months before applying again. Apply sooner if a different role opens that fits your work better.

Sierra hires in several cities. Its careers page names San Francisco as the headquarters, with offices in New York, Atlanta, London, Singapore, Tokyo, Paris, Madrid, and Toronto. A role at a different office is often the faster second try.

A second application is stronger when something real has changed. Build and release a project, learn the agent domain, or gain the missing experience first. Then write your reasons again with How to answer why Sierra.

What to Wear

The early stages are video calls. Dress for a camera. A plain shirt in one solid color reads well on video.

Avoid busy patterns and strong stripes. Sit with a plain wall behind you. Test your camera and microphone the day before.

Sierra says on its careers page that it works in person, and that interviews take place at one of its offices. Clean, casual clothes are right for that visit.

No suit is needed. Ask your recruiter which office and which of your rounds are in person.
