How Long Does It Take to Hear Back After a SpaceX Interview?

Candidates report four to six weeks from first contact to a decision at SpaceX. That covers five to eight rounds. SpaceX does not publish wait times for single rounds, and per stage reports are scarce.

One stage explains much of the total. Many loops include a project presentation, and candidates report getting one to two weeks to prepare it. That gap is planned time, not silence.

The waits in the table are the typical pattern for companies of this size, not confirmed.

Timeline by Stage

StageTypical waitWhat is happening
Application to recruiter replyOne to four weeksPopular roles receive very high application volume
Recruiter screen to phone screenThree business days to two weeksScheduling, plus the eligibility check
Phone screen to resultThree business days to one weekThe interviewer writes up one or two coding problems
Preparing the presentationOne to two weeks, given to youYou build a 10 to 20 minute talk on your own work
Presentation to onsiteA few days to two weeksThe panel shares feedback before the full day is booked
Onsite to decisionOne to two weeksInterviewers from the full day compare notes, then management

Two details are specific to SpaceX. Most roles require United States citizenship or permanent residency under ITAR, the export control rules for defense related technology. That check happens early, so confirm your status before you invest weeks.

The presentation is delivered to a panel of five to ten engineers. It runs 10 to 20 minutes, followed by 10 to 30 minutes of questions.

Does SpaceX Send Rejection Emails?

SpaceX does not publish a rejection policy. Candidates report a short email after interview rounds, and no reply at all after many applications.

Silence after an application is common. The roles attract very high volume, so most applications are never answered individually.

Feedback is not promised. Expect a decision without a score for each round, even after the presentation panel.

Your recruiter is the one person who can tell you where you are. Ask at the end of each round when you should expect news, and write the date down.

How to Follow Up

Wait five business days after a round, or until the date your recruiter gave you. Then send one short message.

Hi [name], thank you for the time on Wednesday. I enjoyed presenting the telemetry work and the questions from the panel. Could you tell me where my application stands and what the next step is? I am happy to send anything else you need.

Send it once, then wait a week before a second note. Ask a direct question each time. A yes or no question is easier to answer than a general question.

Can You Reapply, and How Soon?

SpaceX does not publish a waiting period. About six months is the common advice for companies of this size.

Apply to a different team as well as a different role. The software organization includes flight software, ground systems, satellite work, and manufacturing software. Each team sets its own standard and asks its own domain questions, so a second try elsewhere is a real second chance.

What to Wear

The early rounds are on video, and the onsite is often in person. Phone screens and the recruiter call run remotely for most candidates.

For video, wear a plain shirt in one solid color. Avoid thin stripes on camera. Test your screen sharing before a presentation round.

For a site visit, neat everyday clothes work. Business casual is the safe choice. Wear closed shoes, because part of a visit may include a walk through a production area.

Bring photo identification, and bring the documents your recruiter asks for. Arrive about ten minutes early.
