How Long Does It Take to Hear Back After an Atlassian Interview?
Candidates report three to six weeks from the first Atlassian call to a decision. Typical waits between the early rounds are short, about two to five days. The end of the process is the slower part.
Atlassian publishes a final step called the Hiring Committee Review. That review happens after all your interviews finish. Plan for about a week after your last round.
The committee works separately from your interviewers. Atlassian says it sees only interview feedback and CV information, then makes the decision.
Atlassian also publishes what each round covers. The coding interview has two parts, data structures and code design. The systems design interview runs about 60 minutes.
A manager interview covers your background, your goals, and how you work with others. A values interview covers the company's five published values.
Timeline by Stage
| Stage | Typical wait | What is happening |
|---|---|---|
| After you apply | A few days to two weeks | A recruiter reads your application |
| After the recruiter call | About 2 to 5 days | Scheduling the coding interview |
| After the coding interview | About one week | Interviewers write feedback, then the rest of the rounds are planned |
| Between craft rounds | A few days to a week | Matching calendars across several interviewers |
| After the values interview | About one week | The hiring committee reviews the written feedback and your CV |
Two things explain most of the waiting. Scheduling several interviewers takes days. The committee step then adds days after your last round.
Craft rounds are the rounds for your specific skill, such as coding or design. The values interview is separate, and it produces its own written feedback for the committee.
Atlassian says your values interviewer is likely not on the team you applied to. That interviewer could come from sales, human resources, or customer support.
Does Atlassian Send Rejection Emails?
Atlassian does not publish a rejection policy. What it does publish is where the process can end.
After your rounds, the interviewers consolidate their feedback and hold a debrief. Only candidates judged a good fit reach the Hiring Committee. So a no can arrive before that committee stage or after it.
Written feedback on a round is uncommon. The committee sees the feedback in private, so the recruiter rarely shares it. You can still ask the recruiter for one area to improve.
Your recruiter is the one person who will tell you the result. If a full week passes with no word, one short message is reasonable.
How to Follow Up
Send the note about five business days after a round. After your last round, allow a week for the committee step first. Keep it to four sentences, and ask for a date rather than a verdict.
Hi [Name], thank you for the [round name] on [date]. I especially enjoyed the discussion about [one specific topic]. I wanted to ask whether there is an update, or whether my file is now with the hiring committee. If a decision is still a few days away, could you tell me when to expect it?
Send one note. If silence continues for another week, send one more. Then stop and continue with your other applications.
Can You Reapply, and How Soon?
Atlassian does not publish a reapply rule. Typical for companies of this size, not confirmed: wait about six months before applying again.
Atlassian hires in many countries and runs a distributed work program called Team Anywhere. A role in another team or another country is often the faster second try.
Make the second try different, and fix the round that failed. If the values round was the weak one, prepare stories that match the published values. Two of the five are "Play, as a team" and "Be the change you seek".
What to Wear
Most rounds are video calls. Atlassian says it takes a virtual first approach for all of its intern and graduate interview processes. Dress for a camera.
A plain shirt in one solid color reads well. Avoid busy patterns and strong stripes. Sit with a plain wall behind you, and test your camera the day before.
If a round is at an office, clean casual clothes are right. No suit is needed. Ask your recruiter which rounds are in person.
How to Prepare
- Learn the stages first. What is the Atlassian interview process like? lists the rounds, so you can plan the waiting around them.
- Treat the values round as a real round. The question list is in Top Atlassian behavioral interview questions, and Grokking Modern Behavioral Interview teaches answers built on evidence.
- Prepare the 60 minute design round. Reported topics are in Top system design questions for the Atlassian interview, and the building blocks are in Grokking the System Design Interview.
- Have a clear reason for this company. The manager round asks what you want next. Why should I join Atlassian? gives the material.
- Plan for a quiet week at the end. The committee step is normal. Keep other applications active while you wait.
