How Long Does It Take to Hear Back After an Instacart Interview?

Most candidates report three to seven business days after each Instacart stage. The same range is reported after the virtual onsite. Glassdoor puts the average hiring time near 17 days across all roles.

Interview guides put the full engineering process at two to six weeks. Reports are not uniform. Several candidates report a week of silence after the onsite, then a call with a decision.

Others report no reply at all after a phone screen. Plan for one week per stage, and follow up at five business days.

Timeline by Stage

StageTypical waitWhat is happening
Application reviewUnder two weeksA recruiter matches your resume to an open team
Recruiter screenThree to seven business daysBackground, motivation, and pay range are checked
Online assessmentThree to seven business daysA timed CodeSignal test is scored, then reviewed
Technical phone screenThree to five business daysThe engineer writes feedback for the hiring manager
Virtual onsiteThree to seven business daysInterviewers meet to compare notes, then a decision is made
Offer stageA few days to one weekLevel and pay are approved

The online assessment is reported as a 70 minute CodeSignal test with four tasks. The onsite is reported as four to five rounds in one block, including two coding rounds, a design round, and a behavioral round. Scheduling those rounds is the slowest part.

Does Instacart Send Rejection Emails?

Instacart usually sends a short rejection email after a live round. Candidates report a standard message with no reasons in it. After an onsite, a recruiter call is more common than an email.

Silence is also reported, mostly after the first screen and after take home tasks. Candidates on public forums describe recruiters who stopped replying when a role lost its headcount. That is a team problem, not a signal about your answers.

Detailed feedback is rare. Some candidates report one line, such as a weak system design round.

Ask the recruiter directly on your last call. A verbal note is the most you should expect.

How to Follow Up

Wait five business days, then send one email. If the recruiter named a date, wait two days past it. Keep the email to three or four sentences.

Hi [Name], thank you for the [round] on [date]. I wanted to check where my application for the [role] position stands. Is there an update, or a date when you expect one? I am happy to send anything else that would help.

If nothing comes back, send one more note a week later. Stop after two. Silence past that point is usually a closed role.

Can You Reapply, and How Soon?

Instacart does not publish a set waiting period for corporate roles. No official reapply rule is reported for engineering candidates.

A gap of six months to a year before reapplying to the same team is typical for companies of this size, not confirmed. Applying to a different team sooner is usually allowed, because each hiring manager runs a separate loop.

If you were rejected at the onsite, work on that specific round first. Candidates who did badly in the coding rounds and returned with stronger pattern practice report better results.

What to Wear

The engineering loop is run on video, so dress for a webcam. A plain shirt in one solid color is enough. Instacart teams dress casually, so a suit is not needed.

Check your camera, microphone, and screen sharing before the call. Sit facing a window or a lamp, not with a bright light behind you. A tidy background is enough.

If you are asked to an office, business casual is the safe choice.
