How Long Does It Take to Hear Back After an N26 Interview?
Published interview guides report about two to three days for feedback after each N26 stage, and Glassdoor reports an average of about 25 days for the whole process. For backend engineering roles, Glassdoor reports an average of about 33 days. Interview guides describe three to six weeks from application to offer.
Individual reports vary widely around those numbers. Some candidates report a rejection email within a day or two of a round. Others report weeks of silence late in the process, including one rejection that arrived about four weeks after the third stage.
Timeline by Stage
| Stage | Typical wait | What is happening |
|---|---|---|
| After you apply | Days to two weeks | A recruiter screens applications; many applicants get no reply |
| After the recruiter screen | About two to three days reported | The recruiter sends the coding test or closes the file |
| After the take-home test | About two to three days reported | Engineers score the submission |
| After the live coding round | About two to three days reported | Interviewers write feedback, then scheduling begins |
| After the system design round | About two to three days reported | The interviewers compare notes |
| After the final interview | Days to about four weeks reported | A decision, then an offer or a rejection |
Why the Wait Varies
Three reasons appear across candidate reports. First, scheduling: interviewer slots can be a week or more away, so the gap between rounds is longer than the review itself. Second, the number of people involved, because a recruiter, two engineers, and a hiring manager all have to agree.
Third, rounds that get moved after they are booked. One candidate describes a late round moved again and again until the replies stopped. Ask for an expected date at the end of every round, and ask who to contact if that date passes.
Does N26 Send Rejection Emails?
Candidates do report rejection emails, but the reported timing runs from the next day to about four weeks. The reports describe a short standard message without specific reasons. Some candidates get spoken feedback from the recruiter when they ask for it directly.
One candidate reported being told the performance was good but below the level applied for, with an option to continue for the level below. Silence happens too, most often right after the application, and in some reports even after several rounds. On Glassdoor, about half of the candidates who rated their experience rated it positive, and slow communication is the most frequent complaint.
How to Follow Up
Send one email to the recruiter two working days after the date they promised. If no date was promised, wait one week after the round. Keep the message short and factual.
"Hello [name], thank you for arranging the system design interview on [date]. I am writing to ask about the status of my application for the [role] position. I remain very interested in the team, and I am happy to send any further information you need. Could you tell me when I can expect an update?"
Send at most one follow up per week, and no more than two in total. If two emails get no reply, continue applying elsewhere and leave this application open.
Check your spam folder every few days while you wait. Automated coding test invitations and calendar invitations often arrive from the testing platform rather than from a company address. A missed invitation looks to the recruiter like a withdrawn application.
Can You Reapply, and How Soon?
N26 does not publish a reapplication policy, and candidates do not report a fixed waiting period. For companies of this size, three to six months is the typical wait before reapplying, but that is typical and not confirmed for N26.
Two rules apply in every case. Apply again only when something real has changed, such as a finished project or a skill the role asks for. Also prefer a different open role, unless the same role is posted again. A rejection at the recruiter screen matters far less than a rejection after the final interview.
What to Wear
Most N26 interview rounds happen by video. Candidates report video calls, including Google Meet, and some report a final team meeting at the Berlin office. For a video round, wear a plain shirt, blouse, or sweater in one solid color.
Avoid tight patterns, because they look blurred on video. Test your camera, your microphone, and your connection one hour before the call. Sit with a light source in front of you, not behind you.
For a round at the office, smart casual is enough. A shirt or blouse with clean trousers or a skirt fits the setting. N26 is a licensed bank, but candidates do not report a formal dress code, so a suit is not needed. Dress slightly more formally than the people you saw in the video rounds.
How to Prepare
- Know the full sequence. What is the N26 interview process like? lists every round, so you know which wait you are in.
- Use the wait to study design. What to expect in the N26 system design interview covers the banking problems in that round.
- Keep the motivation answer ready. How to answer why N26 covers the question that returns in the final interview.
- Rehearse the stories while you wait. Grokking Modern Behavioral Interview turns your past work into answers an interviewer can score.
- Keep drilling patterns. Grokking the Coding Interview keeps your coding practice going between stages.
