How Long Does Microsoft Take to Respond After an Interview?
Most candidates hear back from Microsoft within two to three weeks of the final loop. Recruiters usually quote one to two weeks. The gap between the two numbers has one main cause, and knowing it removes most of the worry.
After your loop, Microsoft often adds one more interview called the As Appropriate round, usually shortened to AA. It is scheduled only after the loop panel supports your hire. So silence in week two often means your loop went well and an AA is being arranged.
Earlier stages move faster. A recruiter screen or a first technical round is usually answered within five to seven business days.

Why the As Appropriate round matters
The AA interviewer is a senior person from outside the hiring team. They can reject a candidate the loop supported. This is the step most candidates do not plan for.
An AA invitation is good news. Teams do not spend a senior leader's time on a candidate the loop rejected.
If you are asked for an AA, prepare for it as a real round. Expect broad questions about your judgement, your past work, and how you would grow at the company.
What a long silence usually means
A wait past three weeks is common and is rarely a rejection on its own. The usual causes are ordinary.
- A closed headcount. The role is paused while budget is confirmed, and the recruiter cannot say so yet.
- Team matching. You passed, and the recruiter is finding the right team for you. This is normal for university hiring.
- Holidays or leave. One interviewer on leave can hold a written write-up for a week.
- A stronger candidate is ahead of you. Teams often hold a second choice until the first answers.
Rejections are usually faster than offers. Microsoft sends most rejections by email within a week of the decision.
When and how to follow up
Wait seven to ten business days after the loop, then email the recruiter once. Keep it to four sentences.
Name the role and the date you interviewed. Say you remain interested. Ask for a timing update. Do not ask for feedback on your performance, because recruiters cannot share interviewer notes.
If you get no reply, wait another week and send one more message. Two follow-ups is the limit before it works against you.
A competing offer changes this. Tell the recruiter the deadline as soon as you have one, because a real date is the fastest way to move a decision.
