How to Answer: "Why Do You Want to Work at Snyk?"

A strong answer names Snyk's developer-first idea, connects it to your own experience, and states one specific goal. Snyk builds security tools that developers use inside their normal workflow. The company states four values on its own blog: One Team, Care Deeply, Customer Centric, and Forward Thinking. Your answer should show that you understand the product idea. It should also give evidence that you match at least one value.

What Snyk Does

Snyk is a developer security company. Its tools find security flaws early, while developers write and ship code. Snyk Open Source checks the open source packages a project depends on. Snyk Code scans the project's own source code for flaws. Other products check containers and infrastructure configuration. The shared idea is that developers fix security problems best when the tool meets them in their editor and their build pipeline. This idea is the company's identity. A good motivation answer engages with it directly.

What the Interviewer Is Listening For

  1. Understanding of developer-first security. Explain, in your own words, why fixing flaws during development beats fixing them after release.
  2. Product contact. Snyk has a free tier. Running it once on a real project gives you an honest observation to mention.
  3. A value match. Pick one value, such as Care Deeply, and attach a real story to it.
  4. A specific goal. Name a product area, such as the code scanning engine, the vulnerability database, or the integrations.

A Three-Part Structure

Part 1: your connection to the problem (two sentences). Describe a moment when security work was painful or late in your experience. This shows the problem is real to you.

Part 2: why Snyk specifically (two sentences). Name the developer-first approach and one product observation. This separates Snyk from other security companies in your answer.

Part 3: what you bring (two sentences). Name your strongest skills. Connect them to a Snyk product area.

Sample Answer

"At my last job, security review happened two weeks before each release. We often found vulnerable packages too late to upgrade them safely. That experience made me want to work on tools that catch these problems earlier. I ran Snyk's free scanner on my own project and it flagged two outdated dependencies with known flaws. The fix advice was specific enough to apply in minutes, which impressed me. I have four years of experience building developer tools and command line interfaces. I would like to work on the integrations that put Snyk inside build pipelines."

Seven sentences, one story, one product observation, one goal. That is the whole formula. Replace the details with your own facts and keep the same order.

Fit the Answer to the Role

Adjust the evidence for your target area. For a scanning engine role, mention parsers, program analysis, or performance work. For a platform role, mention APIs, queues, and data pipelines. For a frontend role, mention developer experience and dashboard design. Snyk is also a distributed company with offices in several countries. If you have remote collaboration experience, one sentence about it helps. The structure of the answer never changes. Only your evidence does.

Common Mistakes

  • Treating Snyk as a generic security company. The developer-first idea is the core. An answer that ignores it misses the company's identity.
  • No product contact. The free tier removes every excuse. Interviewers can tell who has used the product.
  • Value name-dropping. Do not recite all four values. Pick one and prove it with a story.
  • A goal with no shape. "I want to work on security" is too broad. Name a product area or a technology.
