What is a Zoom Code?

A Zoom code refers to the unique Meeting ID or Passcode used to join a specific Zoom meeting. It ensures that only authorized participants can access the meeting.

Components of a Zoom Code

  1. Meeting ID:

    • A 9 to 11-digit unique number assigned to every Zoom meeting.
    • Example: 123-456-7890.
    • You need this ID to join a meeting unless you have a direct meeting link.
  2. Passcode:

    • A password set by the meeting host for added security.
    • Example: abc123.
    • Without the passcode, you cannot access the meeting if it is enabled.
  3. Join Link (Optional):

    • A URL that combines the Meeting ID and passcode.
    • Example: https://zoom.us/j/1234567890?pwd=abc123.
    • Clicking the link directly allows participants to bypass entering the code manually.

How to Use a Zoom Code

  1. Join a Meeting via Meeting ID and Passcode:

    • Open Zoom on your device.
    • Click Join a Meeting.
    • Enter the Meeting ID and click Join.
    • If prompted, enter the passcode provided by the host.
  2. Join via Join Link:

    • Click the link sent by the host.
    • Zoom will automatically fill in the Meeting ID and passcode for you.

Security Purpose of Zoom Codes

  • Prevent Unauthorized Access:
    • Meeting passcodes help secure meetings from random participants ("Zoom bombing").
  • Control Attendance:
    • Only those with the Meeting ID and passcode can enter the meeting.

Where to Find Your Zoom Code

  • The host shares the Meeting ID and passcode via email, calendar invite, or messaging platform.
  • The Zoom code is often included in the meeting invitation.

Conclusion

A Zoom code is a combination of a Meeting ID and Passcode used to join a secure Zoom meeting. It ensures that meetings remain private and accessible only to authorized participants.
