What to Wear to a Teams Interview (Video Dress Code)
Wear business casual: a solid collared shirt or a plain blouse. That answer fits almost every interview held on Microsoft Teams. A full suit is rarely needed. A t-shirt, a hoodie or a sports top is too casual.
The general rule is simple. Dress one step above what the team wears on a normal working day.
Microsoft itself has no formal dress code. Staff wear jeans, t-shirts and trainers in the office. One step above that is a plain shirt or a neat top.
Video adds one extra problem. A webcam flattens color and exaggerates pattern. Clothes that look good in a room can look poor on screen.

Colors that work on camera
Mid-tone solid colors are the safest choice. Navy, mid grey, deep green and burgundy all hold their shape on a webcam.
Pure white can look too bright under a lamp. Pure black can merge with a dark chair or a dark wall.
Small patterns are the other problem. Thin stripes and tight checks can shimmer on video. That pulls the eye away from your face.
Pick a color that contrasts with your wall. A light top on a light wall makes you look flat.
What to wear as a woman
The same rule applies. One step above the daily dress code is enough.
A blouse, a fine knit top or a simple shirt all work. Add a blazer or a cardigan for a more formal look.
Keep jewelry simple. Large earrings catch the light and can knock a headset microphone.
Sleeveless tops are fine in a warm climate. A light layer still reads as more formal.
Dress the lower half too
Wear full trousers, a skirt or plain dark jeans. You may need to stand up to fix a light, a cable or a door.
Wear shoes as well. It sounds odd, but it helps you sit and speak like you are at work.

- Move your arms and shoulders. Loose collars shift and look untidy after ten minutes.
Three mistakes that cost you
- A logo on your chest. A rival brand or a joke slogan distracts the panel.
- Getting dressed one minute before. Clothes look creased on camera for the first few minutes.
- A window behind you. Strong backlight turns any outfit into a dark shape. Face the window instead.
