Why are you interested in this position?

When asked why you’re interested in the position, interviewers want to see if you’ve done your research, if you understand the role, and if you’re genuinely motivated to join the company. As a recent graduate, here’s how you can structure a compelling answer:

1. Mention How the Role Aligns with Your Career Goals

Begin by explaining how this position is a perfect fit for your career aspirations, particularly as someone just starting out. Connect your goals to the skills or experiences you hope to gain from the role.

2. Show That You’ve Researched the Company

Example Answer: "I’m also drawn to this position because of your company’s commitment to [mention any unique aspect of the company like innovation, sustainability, customer focus, etc.]. I admire how you approach [mention any specific project, product, or value], and I’m excited about the opportunity to contribute to a company with such a strong focus on [mention the value]."

3. Emphasize Your Eagerness to Learn and Grow

Employers often value fresh graduates for their enthusiasm and willingness to learn. Express your excitement about gaining new skills and growing with the team.

Example Answer: "I’m eager to join a team where I can continuously learn and challenge myself. I know that starting my career in a role that allows for growth and skill development will set a strong foundation, and I believe your team is the ideal environment for that."
