1. The Bill Nobody Designed
Infrastructure bills do not usually grow because somebody made an expensive decision. They grow because a cheap decision was made in a place where the meter was running and nobody could see it.
The previous lesson showed data transfer dominating a bill that an engineer would have estimated as mostly compute. That gap has a cause worth naming directly.
Compute is visible and transfer is not. You choose an instance type deliberately, from a list, with the price next to it. You never choose to send a response across an availability zone boundary
