What you need before you start

Grokking Advanced JavaScript is for developers who can already write small JavaScript programs and now want to understand the parts of the language that larger programs depend on. You should be comfortable with variables, functions, arrays, objects, and loops before you start.

Who the course is for

Developers who finished a JavaScript fundamentals course. If you can write a function that loops over an array of objects and returns a result, you have the background this course assumes. The lessons build on that knowledge and do not repeat it.

Front-end and back-end developers who use JavaScript at work. The language features in this course are the same in the browser and in Node.js. The examples run as plain JavaScript, so they do not depend on a web page, a framework, or a server.

Developers who read code they do not fully understand. Code that uses classes, prototypes, promises, async functions, or this can be hard to follow without a clear model of how each one works. The course explains each of these features with small programs that you can run and change.

What you need before you start

  • Basic JavaScript syntax: variables with let and const, if statements, loops, and functions.
  • Arrays and objects, including how to read and change their contents.
  • The ability to read the output of console.log.

You do not need any experience with Node.js, a framework, or the browser DOM. Every runnable example in the course prints its result with console.log, and you can run it directly in the lesson.
