Introduction to REST APIs

A web page is written for a person to read, while an API response is written for a program to read. The blog you have built so far returns HTML pages, which a browser draws on the screen. A mobile app, or another server, has no use for that HTML. It wants only the data: the title of each article, its author and its text.

This chapter turns the blog into a service that such programs can use. This first lesson explains the ideas behind that kind of service, without any Django code. The next lessons first build the service with plain Django views, so that you see every step done by hand
