In distributed systems, the Bulkhead pattern is an effective way to stop a failure from spreading. The idea comes from shipbuilding. Resources and operations are kept apart, so a failure in one part does not take down the whole system.

This chapter covered the Bulkhead pattern: why it exists, how it is implemented, and how it works. We started with the problem. In a distributed system, one failing service can make the services that call it fail too. That is a cascading failure.
