Message Brokers: Why They Exist
1. The Definition
A message broker is a service that sits between producers and consumers of messages. Kafka, RabbitMQ, and Amazon SQS are the names that come up in interviews.
A producer is any service that sends a message. A consumer is any service that reads one. Producers hand messages to the broker, the broker stores them durably (written to disk so a restart does not lose them), and consumers take them at their own pace.
