The interview question is different:

Here is an existing API. What is wrong with it, and how would you improve it?

The task is to improve an existing API, not design a new one from the beginning.

Read the existing contract, explain the effects on callers, and rank the problems by severity. Propose changes that account for current integrations. Focus on specific risks rather than judgments about the API's author.

The critique format has two rules before any finding:

  1. Read every operation before judging one of them.
  2. State the order of findings before presenting them.
