Clean Architecture/Onion Architecture

In 2008, Jeffrey Palermo published a blog post describing the Onion Architecture.

In 2012, Robert C. Martin (Uncle Bob) published a blog post titled "The Clean Architecture", describing an architecture with different names for its layers but the same fundamental structure.

He expanded the post into the book Clean Architecture in 2017, and engineers still cite both when they discuss the pattern.

Martin's post said openly that it combined several earlier ideas, including Alistair Cockburn's Hexagonal Architecture and Palermo's Onion Architecture
