Understanding React Router

Click a link on a traditional website, and the browser sends a request to the server, throws away the current page, and draws the new HTML page it receives. Click a link in a single page application, and none of that happens. The browser loads one HTML page once, and JavaScript then swaps the content on that page while the address bar still shows a different URL for each screen.

An application built this way is called a single page application (SPA)
