What is React Navigation?

A navigation library keeps a record of which screens are open, shows the right one, and animates the change between them. React Navigation is the library of this kind that the React Native documentation suggests for anyone getting started with navigation, and it works on both iOS and Android.

It gives you several things that you would otherwise have to write yourself:

  • Screen transitions that use the animations of each platform.
  • Back gestures, such as a swipe on iOS, and support for the Android back button.
  • Deep linking, which means opening a specific screen from a URL.
