Prop Drilling

Three components can handle one string, even though only one of them displays it. This happens because props move one level at a time, so a value that a deep component needs must pass through every component above it. Passing a prop through components that do not use it, only so that it reaches a deeper component, is called prop drilling.

The picture sums up what you have learned so far in this chapter, using the FollowButton from the previous lesson. Props go down from parent to child, which is called one-way data flow, and a child reports back only by calling a function it received
