Understanding Animations in React Native

A phone screen redraws itself at least 60 times every second. An animation is a number that changes a little before each redraw: move a box 3 points at each redraw, and the eye sees smooth motion rather than a series of jumps.

Motion has a real purpose in an app. It shows that a press was received, explains where a new element came from, and draws attention to what changed. Motion also has a cost, because every extra animation is more work for the device and more waiting for the user. Use it where it explains something, not everywhere.
