What is the difference between thundering herd and stampede ?

In general, thundering herd problem is refering when a large number of processes or threads waiting for an event are awoken when that event occurs, but only one process is able to handle the event. I am not sure are there any meaning on caching.

But the thundering herd and stampede sound like the same thing describe in here.

Thundering herd is a stampede that happens on the origin server (when a significantly frequently accessed cache expires suddenly)

Cache stampede: Is a duplicate or repeated (not frequent) request to the existing cache thus making the cache read hot.
