VPN vs. Proxy Server

Both a VPN and a proxy server put something between you and the internet, and both can make your traffic look like it came from somewhere else. That is where the similarity ends.

The difference comes down to two questions. Is the traffic encrypted, and how much of your traffic is covered?

A VPN (Virtual Private Network) creates a secure, encrypted tunnel between your device and a remote server run by the VPN service. All of your internet traffic is routed through that tunnel, which means your data is protected from outside observation along the way.
