Database

Chubby stores its files, directories, and locks somewhere durable. This lesson looks at that database, and at how Chubby backs it up and mirrors it to other cells.

Chubby's first database was a replicated version of Berkeley DB. The Chubby team later decided Berkeley DB exposed the system to more risk than they wanted. So they wrote their own database instead, a simple key and value store with three traits:

  1. It uses write-ahead logging and snapshotting.
  2. It supports atomic operations only, not general transactions
