We have seen what Chubby does and where Google uses it. Now we look at how it is actually built: the cell, the servers inside it, and the API applications call.

Chubby common terms

Before we go deep into Chubby's architecture, let's cover a few common terms.

Chubby cell

A Chubby cell is what we call a Chubby cluster. Most cells live inside a single data center or machine room, though some stretch across thousands of kilometers. Every cell has two main parts, server and client, and they talk to each other over remote procedure calls (RPC).
