Know the Vocabulary

This lesson uses the terms below many times. Read them once now, and come back here when a later section needs one.

  • ETA: Short for estimated time of arrival. Here it is the delivery time the app shows at checkout, such as "30 to 40 min" on the screen.
  • MAE (mean absolute error): The average size of the miss, in minutes. A prediction of 32 minutes for a delivery that took 38 minutes misses by 6.
  • p90 error: The miss that 90 percent of predictions stay under. It marks where the worst tenth of the estimates begins.
