Know the Vocabulary

This lesson uses the terms below many times. Read them once now, and come back here when a later section needs one.

  • Ticket: A written request for one piece of work, such as "fix the wrong tax on receipts." Teams track tickets in a tool such as Jira.
  • Pull request (PR): A proposed change to the code that waits for review. A person reads it and then either approves it or asks for changes.
  • Diff: The exact lines a change adds, removes, or edits. A reviewer reads the diff of a pull request.
  • Merge: Accepting a pull request into the main code
