The store's public API serves mobile applications and several hundred partner integrations. One partner releases a retry bug that loops without backoff, which means waiting progressively longer between attempts. Its traffic rises from 40 requests per second to 4,000.

Every request uses valid credentials, correct formatting, and apparently legitimate behavior. The gateway authenticates them all despite the partner sending one hundred times its expected traffic
