What you'll learn in Grokking Meta Coding Interview

  • The 45 coding questions Meta asks most often, rather than a general problem set with a company name attached to it.
  • Meta staples worked in full: Buildings With an Ocean View, Nested List Weight Sum, Dot Product of Two Sparse Vectors, Binary Tree Vertical Order Traversal, and Basic Calculator.
  • Every problem attempted first in an in-browser editor, before you are shown anything.
  • Complexity analysis on every solution, which Meta interviewers ask for reliably rather than occasionally.
  • The recurring shapes behind the list: sliding window, monotonic structures, graph and matrix traversal, and binary search on the answer.
  • 10 easy, 25 medium, and 10 hard problems, weighted toward the medium band because that is where these loops actually live.
  • The hard problems Meta returns to year after year: Alien Dictionary, Minimum Window Substring, Serialize and Deserialize Binary Tree, and Longest Increasing Path in a Matrix.
  • A step-by-step algorithm and a walkthrough for each solution, so you learn the reasoning rather than reverse engineering finished code.
  • Solutions in Python, Java, C++, JavaScript, Go, and C#.
  • A realistic sense of the bar, since seeing 10 genuine hard problems is more useful than being told the interview is hard.

This is what I love about http://designgurus.io’s Grokking the coding interview course. They teach patterns rather than solutions.

FAQs

It is a focused set of the 45 coding questions asked most frequently in Meta interviews, each with a problem lesson you attempt in the browser and a separate solution lesson containing the approach, a step by step algorithm, a walkthrough, code in six languages, and the complexity analysis.

Engineers with a Meta loop booked, or one they expect. It assumes you already know your data structures and patterns and want targeted practice on this company rather than another general course. If you are still learning the patterns themselves, start with Grokking the Coding Interview and come back to this closer to the interview.

Forty-five, including Toeplitz Matrix, Move Zeroes, Missing Ranges, Tree Diameter, Diagonal Traverse, Custom Sort String, Buildings With an Ocean View, Basic Calculator II, Nested List Weight Sum, Dot Product of Two Sparse Vectors, Subarray Sum Equals K, K Closest Points to the Origin, Number of Islands, Clone Graph, Alien Dictionary, Minimum Window Substring, Best Meeting Point, Serialize and Deserialize Binary Tree, and Longest Increasing Path in a Matrix.

10 easy, 25 medium, and 10 hard. The weighting is deliberate: Meta screens and onsites sit mostly in the medium band, often with two medium questions in a 45 minute slot, so that is where most of your practice time should go.

Python, Java, C++, JavaScript, Go, and C#. Every solution is given in all six, so you can practise in whichever language you plan to use on the day.

For the coding rounds it is strong, targeted preparation, but it is not the whole loop, and no problem list ever guarantees the exact questions you will get. Meta interviews also include system design and behavioral rounds, and the point of working these 45 is to leave you recognising the underlying shapes rather than the specific questions.

Grokking the Coding Interview teaches the patterns from scratch across a much larger problem set. This course assumes you have those and narrows to one company, so it is best used as the final phase of preparation. Many people work through the patterns course first and then run this one in the last couple of weeks before a Meta loop.

Yes. Each problem lesson ends with a Try it yourself editor so you attempt the problem before seeing the answer, which is the only version of this practice that actually builds recall. The solution lives in a separate lesson so you are not tempted to glance at it.

Text-based, with runnable code. Working a problem means writing, running, failing, and rereading the walkthrough, and that loop is far tighter on a page than in a video.

Yes. Design Gurus issues a certificate once you have completed the course, and you can share the link directly or add it to your LinkedIn profile.
