How Long Does It Take to Hear Back After a Cisco Interview?

Cisco states that most applicants hear back within seven to ten days of applying. Cisco also states that many interviews are completed within two to three weeks. After the final loop, candidates report another two to three weeks for a decision.

End to end, reports for software roles cluster around four to eight weeks. Campus hiring often finishes faster. Cisco does not publish a wait time for each round, so treat the per stage numbers below as reports, not policy.

Timeline by Stage

Cisco runs a Candidate Portal. You can sign in there and read your own application status. The status often changes before any email arrives, so check it during a long wait.

Does Cisco Send Rejection Emails?

Cisco says it tries to tell every applicant the result of the application. Candidates report a short email generated by the system. It gives no reason and names no round.

Many candidates report the portal status changing first, with the email arriving days later. No reply at all after the final loop is also common in reports.

Cisco does not give interview feedback to outside candidates. Interviewers write notes for the internal review, not for you. Asking for feedback rarely gets a useful answer.

Ask instead for the decision date at the end of each round. Once you have a date, you know when to write again.

How to Follow Up

Wait two full weeks after the final loop before writing. For earlier rounds, wait one week past the date your recruiter gave you. Write to the recruiter, not to the interviewers.

Hello [name], thank you for the time on [date]. I am still very interested in the [team] role, and I enjoyed the discussion about [topic]. Could you tell me the current status of my application and when a decision is expected? I am glad to send anything else that would help.

Send one message. If there is no reply in another week, send a second and final one.

A Cisco loop often stops while budget approval is pending, or while an internal candidate is considered. Neither reason is about your performance. Keep applying to other companies while you wait.

Can You Reapply, and How Soon?

Cisco does not publish a cooling period, which is a set wait before you may apply again. Candidates report that you can apply to a different Cisco role right away.

For the same role, about six months is typical for companies of this size, not confirmed. A new job posting for the same job is a fair reason to apply sooner.

Cisco is large, and its business units hire on their own. A rejection from one unit does not block an application to another unit.

If the online assessment ended your process, work on that part first. Candidates report an assessment that mixes coding problems with questions on networking, operating systems, and databases.

What to Wear

Most Cisco interviews happen on video, over Webex. Cisco states that it meets candidates over Webex, by phone, or in person.

Cisco also states that it never interviews by chat or by email. A chat only interview that says it comes from Cisco is a scam.

For a video round, wear a plain shirt in one solid color. A collared shirt or a simple blouse is enough. Open Webex the day before and test your camera and microphone.

Sit with the light in front of you, not behind you. For an onsite at a Cisco office, add a jacket or a sweater if you want one. Business casual is the normal dress at Cisco sites.
