How Long Does It Take to Hear Back After a Linear Interview?

Linear publishes its own timeline. Its hiring page says most processes run four to six weeks from the first conversation to an offer. The page adds that this varies by role and scheduling. The page also says most roles have three to four interview conversations before the final stage. That final stage is a paid work trial of two to five days. Public candidate reports about Linear are scarce, so the numbers here come from Linear's own published process rather than from Glassdoor or forum threads.

Linear makes two promises about contact. It says it gives feedback to candidates who do not move forward after interviews. It also says that if there is a delay or a change, it will tell you rather than leave you without news.

Timeline by Stage

StageTypical waitWhat is happening
After you applyDays to a few weeksTalent team review, then a first conversation is offered
After the first conversationA few daysA recruiter or hiring manager decides on team interviews
Between team interviewsA few days to one weekThree to four focused conversations are scheduled
Before the work trialAbout one weekScheduling the two to five day paid project
After the work trialDaysWritten feedback, a blind vote, then the hiring manager decides

The work trial explains why the whole process fits in four to six weeks. It replaces several extra interview rounds with one real project.

Linear says the trial is paid for every role, and that it shares the daily rate in advance. It also says it is flexible about scheduling, because candidates are balancing other work and personal commitments.

Does Linear Send Rejection Emails?

Linear states that it gives feedback after interviews, even when the conversation is hard. That is a stronger promise than most companies make, and it is written on its hiring page.

The decision itself is described in public too. After the work trial, each member of the project team writes feedback on their own. Then the team holds a blind vote and discusses it.

Linear says anything other than a strong yes counts as a no. The hiring manager makes the final call and prefers a unanimous decision.

Two things follow from that. A rejection after a trial is a team decision, not one person's opinion. And the wait is short, because each person writes their feedback before the team meets.

The earliest stage is different. Linear says its Talent team reviews every application it receives. So a no at that point still came from a person.

How to Follow Up

Wait about five business days after a stage, then write to your recruiter. Keep it to four sentences.

Hi [Name], thank you for the [round name] on [date]. I enjoyed the conversation about [one specific topic]. I am still very interested in the role and wanted to ask about the next step. If you are still scheduling, could you tell me when to expect news?

If the work trial is the next step, ask about dates and the daily rate in the same note. Both are things Linear says it shares in advance.

Can You Reapply, and How Soon?

Linear does not publish a waiting period for a second application. Typical for companies of this size, not confirmed: wait about six months before applying for a similar role.

Linear does describe what it values. It says it prefers slope over credentials, which means how fast you improve. It also looks for craft, judgment, ownership, and clarity.

So a stronger second application shows new work, not a longer resume. All open roles are listed on the Linear careers page. Linear says it also sources candidates and welcomes referrals, and that the process from there is the same.

What to Wear

Every stage is remote, so every interview is a video call. Linear describes itself as a remote team, distributed across time zones.

Dress for a camera in one solid color. Avoid busy patterns and strong stripes. Pick a quiet room and check your light before the call.

The work trial is remote too. Linear says you work with a small project team, get access to its internal tools, and deliver something real. Treat every call in those days the way you treat an interview.
