How Long Does It Take to Hear Back After a Twilio Interview?
Candidates report about 26 days from first contact to decision at Twilio. Glassdoor lists an average of 26 days across 1,226 submitted interviews. That is a large sample.
The final round is the fastest part of the process. Candidates report a debrief the day after the loop. Some report an offer within about two days.
Others report seven to ten days after the virtual onsite panel. Waits by role vary widely. New graduate software engineer roles report the longest waits by far, because those roles follow a campus calendar.
Timeline by Stage
The 26 day average and the post-loop reports come from candidate data. The other per-stage waits are typical for a company of this size, not confirmed.
| Stage | Typical wait | What is happening |
|---|---|---|
| Application | A few days to three weeks | A recruiter reviews it against the role |
| After the recruiter call | A few days | The recruiter sends the online coding test link |
| After the online coding test | A few days to one week | Automated scores are reviewed before a phone screen |
| After the technical phone screen | About one week | The interviewer writes feedback; the recruiter books the loop |
| After the final loop | Two days to two weeks | Interviewers debrief, often the next day, and decide |
| Offer | A few days | The recruiter prepares level and terms |
The online coding test is timed, on HackerRank, and runs about 90 minutes. Its results come back quickly, because the scoring is automatic. The long waits at Twilio come after the loop, not after the test.
Some loops include a bar raiser. A bar raiser is an interviewer from another team who checks the hiring standard. That person has to be scheduled, which can add days.
Does Twilio Send Rejection Emails?
Candidates report mixed treatment. Some describe fast, friendly replies from recruiters at every stage. Others report finishing the full loop and then getting nothing.
Rejections with no reason attached are also reported often. Glassdoor shows about 38.5 percent of candidates rating the experience as positive, which is low.
So plan for silence and act early. Ask the recruiter on the first call how and when you will hear after each stage. Ask again at the end of the loop.
Written feedback on a round is rare. The recruiter can still tell you which stage ended it.
Twilio uses numbered engineering levels. A loop can also end with an offer at a lower level than the role you applied for.
If that happens, the recruiter will discuss it as an offer instead of a rejection. See What is the Twilio interview process like? for what each round decides.
How to Follow Up
Send one email to the recruiter. Wait three business days after the loop, because the debrief usually happens the next day. For earlier stages, wait one full week past the date they gave you.
Hi [Name], thank you again for the final round on [date]. I enjoyed the design discussion about message delivery and retries. I am still very interested in the [role] position and wanted to ask about next steps. Please tell me if you need anything else from me.
Keep it to four sentences. One follow-up now, and one more a week later, is the limit.
Can You Reapply, and How Soon?
Twilio does not state a reapply rule on its careers site. One published interview guide reports a six month waiting period before Twilio reconsiders a candidate.
Treat that as a report, not a confirmed policy. Six months is also the typical waiting period for companies of this size.
Twilio hires across many product teams, so the role matters as much as the wait. Ask the recruiter to keep your profile on file. Ask which team fits you better.
Add production experience with messaging, queues, or APIs before you try again. An API, or application programming interface, is the set of rules one program uses to request work from another.
What to Wear
Nearly every Twilio interview is on video. Twilio is a remote first company, and its policy has a name: Open Work.
The chief executive has stated publicly that Twilio will not return to the office while he holds the role. So do not expect an onsite day.
On camera, pick one plain color and a simple top or collared shirt. Check your light and your background before the call. Test your audio too, because remote communication is how this company works.
If you are asked to an office for a rare in person round, wear clean casual clothes. No suit.
How to Prepare
- Know the rounds before you wait. What is the Twilio interview process like? explains what each gap between stages is for.
- Use the wait for design practice. What to expect in the Twilio system design interview covers the messaging questions the loop asks.
- Prepare one story per value. Top Twilio behavioral interview questions lists the questions the values round uses.
- Practice both technical rounds. Grokking the Coding Interview and Grokking the System Design Interview match the test and the loop.
