How Long Does It Take to Hear Back After a Wealthsimple Interview?
Candidates report one to two weeks between stages at Wealthsimple, and about three to four weeks in total. Candidate reports average about 24 days from first contact to a hiring decision across all roles. Reports for senior software engineer roles average closer to 18 days. One intern candidate reported two and a half weeks from application to decision.
Wealthsimple does not publish a wait time for each stage. Several candidates report more than a week of waiting after a single step, and some report no reply at all. A quiet week after any round is normal, and it does not tell you your result.
Timeline by Stage
The totals above come from candidate reports. The per stage waits below are typical for a company of this size, and they are not confirmed by Wealthsimple.
| Stage | Typical wait | What is happening |
|---|---|---|
| Application | One to two weeks | A recruiter reviews applications in Ashby, the hiring system Wealthsimple uses |
| After the first screen | A few days to two weeks | The recruiter schedules the coding screen with an engineer |
| After the coding screen | About one week | The interviewer writes feedback, and the team decides on the next stage |
| After the technical stage | One to two weeks | Interviewers compare notes on your presentation and the pair programming round |
| Offer stage | A few days | The recruiter prepares the level and pay details |
Internship postings name the month in which selected candidates will hear back. Postings for full time roles do not name such a date, so ask your recruiter for one. Confirm every scheduled time in writing, and ask for the date by which a decision is expected.
Does Wealthsimple Send Rejection Emails?
Candidates report both outcomes. Many receive a short email from the recruiter saying the company is moving forward with other candidates. Others report silence. One candidate was told a decision was coming, sent two follow up messages, and never received a reply.
Another reported that the talent acquisition contact stopped answering during the screening stage, after rescheduling the call three times. Written feedback on your performance is rare at companies of this size, and that is typical rather than specific to Wealthsimple. If two weeks pass with no word after a stage, treat it as a slow process rather than a decision, then follow up once.
How to Follow Up
Send one short email to your recruiter. Wait at least one full week past the date they gave you. If they gave no date, wait ten business days.
"Hi [Name], thank you again for the pair programming session on [date]. I enjoyed building the transaction balance problem, and the discussion about handling retries. I remain very interested in the [role] position, and I wanted to ask about the next steps. Please let me know if you need anything further from me."
Keep it to four sentences. One follow up is normal, and a second one a week later is acceptable. A third is not.
Can You Reapply, and How Soon?
Wealthsimple does not publish a reapply rule, and candidates do not report one. Companies of this size usually accept a new application after six to twelve months, which is typical and not confirmed here. Recruiters keep notes in their hiring system, so a second application should show a change since the first.
Useful changes include production experience with many small services, or a project that moves money correctly and proves it. You can also ask the recruiter directly in your reply to the rejection email. Many recruiters will name the gap they saw and the period they prefer you to wait.
What to Wear
Most Wealthsimple interviews happen on video. The company describes its Toronto head office as its main place for larger onsites, and some candidates report an in person interview day for certain roles.
For video, wear a plain shirt or a clean top in one color. Check your camera, your light, and your background before the call starts.
For an onsite in Toronto, wear clean casual clothes, such as a shirt with dark pants or dark jeans. No suit is needed. Engineers at Canadian technology companies dress casually, and a suit does not match how the team will be dressed.
How to Prepare
- Know the stages before you wait. What is the Wealthsimple interview process like? explains what each gap between rounds is for.
- Use the wait on your presentation. What to expect in the Wealthsimple system design interview covers the Bring Your Own System round in detail.
- Rehearse the motivation question. It returns in the manager round, so prepare it with How to answer why Wealthsimple.
- Practice during the gaps. Grokking the Coding Interview and Grokking the System Design Interview cover the two technical stages.
