How Long Does It Take to Hear Back After a Spotify Interview?

Spotify states that it tries to reply within a few days of your final interview. That figure comes from its own hiring FAQ. The same page says it tries to answer every application within a few weeks, and that popular roles take longer.

Candidate reports are slower than both figures. Glassdoor puts the full process at about 39 days on average, across more than 1,200 candidate reports. Waits of two to three weeks between rounds are common.

Timeline by Stage

Spotify publishes three steps: Apply, Interview, and Decision. Its FAQ then describes the interview part in order.

First comes a video or phone interview with a recruiter. Next comes a second interview with one or two members of the team. The final round usually means meeting several band members across the business.

The difference between the stated few days and the reported few weeks is the main thing to plan for. Spotify's FAQ gives one reason itself. It says the wait can be longer when several candidates interview for the same role.

A take home case adds time too. Candidates in analytics and data roles report a dataset, a case question, and a short presentation to prepare.

Does Spotify Send Rejection Emails?

Spotify commits in writing to telling you either way. Its hiring FAQ says it will let you know the outcome as soon as possible. On feedback it is more careful. The same page says it will always do its best to give feedback where it can, and that detailed feedback is sometimes not possible.

Practice does not always match the promise. One candidate on Glassdoor's community described waiting more than three weeks after a final round, with no reply to follow up emails.

Another described about four weeks with no feedback at all. Blind threads report the same pattern of long gaps and few updates. Plan to keep applying elsewhere while you wait.

How to Follow Up

Wait two weeks after your last round, then send one email. Spotify's own stated target is a few days, so two weeks is a fair point to ask.

Subject: Following up on my Spotify interviews

Hi [Name], thank you for arranging my interviews with the team. I am writing to ask whether there is an update on the decision. Please let me know if you need anything further from me. I am still very interested in the role, and a short call works if that is easier.

Send one more after another two weeks. Then stop, and keep applying elsewhere.

Can You Reapply, and How Soon?

Spotify publishes an answer to this one. Its hiring pages say you can reapply if the role is still open and at least six months have passed since your last interview. The same pages add that you are welcome to apply for other open roles.

Candidate reports are less consistent. Some report a recruiter naming six months, one reported being told twelve months, and one reported a rejection email saying no cooling off period applied.

Read your own rejection email first, because it is the only reliable source for your case. If it says nothing, use Spotify's own six month guideline for the same role. A different role or a different team can be sooner.

What to Wear

Most Spotify interviews are on video. Spotify states this plainly and names the tools. It uses Google Meet and Zoom for the calls, plus CoderPad and Mural for technical and design work.

CoderPad is a shared code editor. Mural is a shared whiteboard.

Smart casual is right. A plain shirt, blouse, or sweater in a solid color is enough. Spotify's FAQ even says it will not worry about the small stuff on a video call, so spend your preparation on light and sound instead.

For an onsite at an office in Stockholm, New York, or elsewhere, add a jacket. The offices are casual, and a suit is more formal than the role needs.
