How to Answer: "Why Do You Want to Work at Nebius?"

The best answer connects Nebius's infrastructure to your own work. Nebius builds an AI cloud: GPU clusters, fast networking, storage, and managed inference, which is a service that runs a model for you and returns results through an API. A strong answer proves three things: you understand what Nebius sells, you have owned real infrastructure or systems work, and you want to solve difficult, large-scale problems.

What the Interviewer Listens For

1. Real product knowledge. Nebius sells clusters of NVIDIA GPUs connected by InfiniBand, a high-speed network used to link servers for training. It offers Slurm and Kubernetes for running jobs, and a managed inference product called Token Factory. Naming a specific part shows you did real research, while generic praise for "AI infrastructure" does not.

2. Ownership evidence. Nebius states its engineering principles in public, and two of them are "Own the outcome" and "Go build", so interviewers want stories where you built and released something to production yourself. A service you ran in production, with on-call duty, is strong proof.

3. Appetite for hard problems. Another stated principle is "Solve difficult problems", and the hard problems here are GPU reliability, scheduling across thousands of machines, and serving models at low latency. Show that you chose a hard problem before, and say what you learned.

4. Judgment. Nebius writes that your judgment should change the architecture, so the interviewer listens for a decision you made that changed a design. Explain the alternatives you rejected and why.

A Three Part Structure

Part 1: The product (2 to 3 sentences). Say why you want to work on AI infrastructure. Include evidence, such as a cluster you ran or a model you served.

Part 2: Your proof (2 to 3 sentences). Describe one system you owned end to end. Include a number, such as request volume or uptime.

Part 3: The direction (1 to 2 sentences). Say what you want to build at Nebius, in terms of a real product part.

Sample Answer

"I want to work at Nebius because the hardest infrastructure problems today are in AI clouds. At my current company I own the inference serving layer for our recommendation models. I moved it from single-node serving to a Kubernetes cluster with autoscaling. That cut our p99 latency by about 40 percent and removed our weekly capacity incidents. The work taught me how GPU scheduling and network limits decide real performance. Nebius builds that layer for many customers at once, from the hardware up to the API. I want to work on Token Factory or the cluster orchestration side, where those problems are the whole job."

This answer works because every claim has proof: the interest comes with a system the candidate built, the ownership claim ends in a number, and the direction names a real Nebius product.

Where the Question Appears

Expect the motivation question in the recruiter conversation first, which Nebius describes as 30 minutes on the role, your background, and your expectations. The hiring manager often asks the question again in the final meetings, and the second version asks for more evidence. Keep the same core answer both times, because interviewers compare notes, and add one new proof point such as a detail from the Nebius engineering blog.

Common Mistakes

  • Generic AI excitement. An answer that fits any AI company fails here, because Nebius is an infrastructure company and the answer must show interest in clusters, networks, and serving, not only in models.
  • No contact with the product. Nebius publishes product pages, an engineering page, and interview guides for backend, frontend, and SRE roles, so arriving without reading any of them looks unserious.
  • Only wanting to use GPUs. Nebius engineers build the platform, not only run models on it. Say why the platform layer interests you.
  • Ignoring pace. Nebius states "Move fast" as a principle, so give evidence that you have shipped quickly under real constraints.
  • Vague on judgment. If you cannot name one decision that changed a design, the interviewer will notice. Prepare that example.
