What Is the Nebius Interview Process Like? (Round by Round)

Nebius publishes its interview process: a recruiter conversation, a preliminary interview, technical and algorithm interviews, a system design section, and final meetings. Each interview lasts about one hour and runs on Zoom, and Nebius states that recruiters reply to resumes within three business days and give feedback within one week of each interview. Reported end-to-end times average about a month, and one candidate reported about two months.

Candidates report loops of one coding round, one system design round, and a hiring manager interview. Others report two or three coding rounds. The exact number of technical rounds depends on the role and the level.

Quick Overview

StageFormatWhat is evaluated
1. Recruiter conversationAbout 30 minutes, callBackground, expectations, role fit
2. Preliminary interviewAbout 60 minutes, online editorOne coding task plus experience questions
3. Technical and algorithm interviews60 minutes each, liveAlgorithms, data structures, depth in your stack
4. System design sectionAbout 60 minutesDesigning large infrastructure systems
5. Final meetingsAbout 60 minutesHiring manager fit, team match, motivation

Stage 1: Recruiter Conversation

Nebius describes this as a 30 minute call about the role, your background, and your expectations. Nebius builds an AI cloud (GPU clusters, networking, storage, and managed inference for companies that train and run models), so the recruiter checks that your experience matches the team. Expect the motivation question here in a short form, and prepare it with How to answer why Nebius.

Stage 2: Preliminary Interview

The company's backend guide describes one task covering coding, algorithms, and data structures. The interviewer also asks about your experience with programming languages, operating systems, and databases. You write code in the Nebius online editor, any language is allowed, and Nebius says the goal is to see how you think and reach a solution.

Candidates report problems at LeetCode medium level, with some at hard level. Nebius recommends reviewing algorithm complexity, tree traversals, stacks, queues, and asynchrony. It also names "Numbers Every Programmer Should Know", a short list of common latencies such as a disk read versus a memory read, so learn it before this round.

Stage 3: Technical and Algorithm Interviews

The number of technical rounds varies by role and level, so candidates report two or three coding interviews in some loops, and one in others. Site reliability roles get three technical interviews of 60 to 90 minutes each, according to the company's SRE guide, covering Linux, networking, console tools, and coding in a language such as Python or Go.

Some interviewers add constraints, such as coding in a plain text editor or debugging without running the program. One senior candidate reported tasks at easy to medium level, and another reported a question typed live by the interviewer that contained mistakes. If a question is unclear, ask for the exact requirements before you write code.

Stage 4: System Design Section

Nebius names a system design section in its guide. The questions follow the product: clusters of GPUs, job scheduling, storage for training data, and serving models to many customers. One candidate reported that system design and coding were the two main grading areas, and the full topic list is in What to expect in the Nebius system design interview.

Stage 5: Final Meetings

The company calls the last stage "final meetings", and candidates report a hiring manager interview at this point. It covers your past projects, why you made specific decisions, and how you work with a team. The company's engineering page also names a 90 minute Technical Deep Dive about one significant project.

Nebius states that it evaluates engineering judgment and technical depth on real projects. Prepare one project where you can explain every decision and its alternatives.

Timeline and Decision

Nebius states two timeline promises: a reply on a resume within three business days, and contact from a recruiter within one week after each interview. Candidates report mixed results against those promises. One candidate called the process smooth and quick, while another reported two to three week gaps between rounds and about two months in total.

Candidates rate the difficulty near the middle of the scale, and fewer than one third rate the experience as positive. The common complaint is slow or silent communication. See How long does it take to hear back after a Nebius interview for the waits by stage.

Questions to Ask Them

Each round includes time for your questions. Ask how the team measures reliability of GPU clusters, because that is the core product, and ask how on-call works and how incidents are reviewed.

Ask what the team ships in a normal month and which decisions engineers make without approval. Nebius says that your judgment should change the architecture, so ask for a recent example of that.

How to Prepare

  • Drill medium and hard coding problems. Grokking the Coding Interview teaches the patterns behind the tasks candidates report.
  • Learn infrastructure design. Grokking the System Design Interview covers the storage, queue, and scheduling parts the design round uses.
  • Memorize the latency numbers. Nebius names this list in its own guide, so memorize it before the preliminary interview.
  • Prepare one deep project story. Write down decisions, alternatives, and results before the final meetings.
  • Think out loud. Nebius asks for this directly, so say your assumptions and trade-offs as you work.
