Top Samsara Behavioral Interview Questions (and How to Answer Them)

Samsara behavioral interviews center on ownership, customer success, teamwork, and growth. Samsara publicly describes principles such as focusing on customer success, building for the long term, adopting a growth mindset, and winning as a team. Public lists of exact interview questions are limited, so the ten questions below are built from those themes. Prepare them and you will be ready for the real variations.

Samsara sells sensors and software to fleets, construction firms, and field service teams. Behavioral answers that mention real customers and real operations fit the company's culture well.

Ownership Questions

Samsara gives engineers responsibility early. Candidates report that recent graduates often own significant scope. Expect ownership to be probed hard.

  1. Tell me about a project you owned from beginning to end. Describe decisions you made yourself, not tasks you completed. End with the measurable result.
  2. Describe a time you took on work outside your job description. The interviewer listens for initiative without being asked. Keep the story about the problem, not your ambition.
  3. Tell me about a mistake that reached production. Own the mistake plainly. Spend most of the story on detection, the fix, and the prevention that followed.

Customer Success Questions

  1. Tell me about a time you changed a plan because of customer feedback. Name the feedback and the change. Show that you treated the customer's problem as the real requirement.
  2. Describe a time you worked with a non-technical person to solve a problem. Samsara's users include drivers and dispatchers. Plain communication with them is part of the job.

Teamwork Questions

  1. Tell me about a disagreement with a teammate and how it ended. Describe the conversation, the evidence you both used, and the decision. Do not make the other person the villain.
  2. Describe a time you helped a struggling teammate. The strong answer shows patience and a concrete outcome, such as a shipped feature.
  3. Tell me about a time you worked across teams to deliver something. Name the teams, the friction, and how you kept both sides informed.

Growth Mindset Questions

A growth mindset is the belief that skills improve through practice and feedback.

  1. Tell me about the hardest feedback you have received. Quote the feedback honestly. Then show the changed behavior with a later example.
  2. Describe something difficult you learned quickly. Pick a real deadline. Explain your learning method, not just the outcome.

A Worked Sample Answer

Use the STAR method: Situation, Task, Action, Result. Here is an outline for question one, the theme Samsara weighs most.

  • Situation. "Our alerting service sent late notifications, and customers noticed. The engineer who built it had left the company."
  • Task. "No one owned the service. I asked my manager to give it to me alongside my sprint work."
  • Action. "I read the code for two days and found a queue that grew without limit. I added a size cap, a retry policy, and a dashboard for delay. I wrote a one-page runbook so the next engineer would not start from zero."
  • Result. "Notification delay dropped from minutes to under ten seconds. The service caused zero customer tickets in the next two quarters, and I still owned it when I left."

The outline works because ownership is shown, not claimed. You asked for the work, fixed it, measured it, and documented it.

What Samsara Listens For

Scope you claimed, not scope you were given. Stories where you volunteered carry more signal than assigned work.

Numbers. Delay in seconds, tickets per week, percent improvement. Every result needs at least one number.

Learning loops. End each story with what changed in your behavior afterward. That matches the growth mindset principle directly.
