How Long Does It Take to Hear Back After a Synthesia Interview?
Candidates report about three weeks from application to decision at Synthesia. Glassdoor reports an average of about 23 days across all roles. Synthesia itself states in its engineering job postings that the process "can be done in seven working days".
Reports on the wait after each stage are mixed. One candidate reported prompt feedback between stages, while another reported a week of silence after the final round and a reply only after asking. A third reported no reply at all after the recruiter screen. Plan for a few days to a week after each stage, and follow up once if that passes.
Timeline by Stage
| Stage | Typical wait | What is happening |
|---|---|---|
| Application | A few days to two weeks | A recruiter reviews applications; typical for companies of this size, not confirmed |
| Recruiter call | A few days | The recruiter checks fit with the hiring manager and schedules the next call |
| Past projects conversation | A few days | The interviewer writes feedback; the take-home is sent |
| Take-home task | Your own pace, no deadline | Engineers review the submission before the technical discussion |
| Technical discussion | A few days to a week | Interviewers compare notes and schedule the leadership call |
| Leadership call | A few days to a week | The team decides and prepares an offer or a rejection |
The per-stage waits above are typical for a company of Synthesia's size and speed. Only the average total and the individual reports in the first paragraph come from candidates. Synthesia uses a candidate portal that shows the process details and the interviewer profiles for your role. Check the portal before you email, because the next step is often already listed there.
Does Synthesia Send Rejection Emails?
Reports differ. Some candidates report clear communication and quick feedback between stages, while others report silence. One London candidate reported no contact for a week after the final interview, and when that candidate asked, the reply said they were not considered suitable.
Another candidate reported no reply after the recruiter screen, even after a follow-up email. One candidate received written feedback but found it vague, because it said the answers were too brief while the candidate felt no problem-solving question had been asked.
The practical reading is that a rejection after the recruiter screen may arrive as silence, while a rejection after a later round usually arrives as a short email, sometimes only after you ask. Detailed feedback on a take-home is not standard, so if you want feedback, ask for it in your follow-up email, and ask for one specific thing.
How to Follow Up
Send one email to your recruiter after the time in the table passes, and keep it short.
"Hello [Name], thank you again for the [stage name] on [date]. I enjoyed the discussion about [one specific topic from the interview]. Could you share an update on the next step, or a rough timeline for the decision? I remain very interested in the role."
Send it about five working days after the interview, and if you get no reply, send one more after another week. After that, stop, because two emails show interest and a third shows nothing new. If you have a competing offer with a deadline, say so in the first email, with the date.
Can You Reapply, and How Soon?
Synthesia does not publish a reapplication policy, and candidates do not report one. Companies of this size typically ask for a wait of six to twelve months before reapplying for the same role, but that is not confirmed for Synthesia. Applying for a different role or a different level sooner is usually allowed. Synthesia's head of talent has said in public that companies should question how they hire at least every six months. A second attempt may meet a different process from the first.
When you reapply, address the earlier gap directly, and if the take-home was the reason, mention a project that shows the missing skill. Synthesia has said in press interviews that it cares about what you built and how much of it you owned. New evidence of ownership is the strongest case for a second review.
What to Wear
Most Synthesia interviews are on video. The company has offices in London and New York and hires in many countries, so even final rounds are often remote. For a video call, wear a plain collared shirt or a plain top in one color, and sit in front of a neutral background with light on your face, not behind you. Test the camera and microphone ten minutes before the call.
For an onsite visit, wear smart casual clothes: a collared shirt or a neat top, dark trousers or a skirt, and clean shoes. A suit is more formal than the office and is not needed, and comfort matters more than formality, because the day is long.
How to Prepare
- Know the stages before you wait for them. What is the Synthesia interview process like? lists each round, so you know which wait you are in.
- Use the wait to prepare the next round. The design discussion is covered in What to expect in the Synthesia system design interview.
- Rehearse the motivation question. It returns in the leadership call, in the form described in How to answer why Synthesia.
- Practice the behavioral stories. Grokking Modern Behavioral Interview teaches evidence-first answers for the values questions in the final call.
