How Long Does It Take to Hear Back After a Zoox Interview?
Candidates report about 30 days from first interview to decision at Zoox. Glassdoor lists an average of about 30 days across 327 submitted interviews. Reports by role vary much more than that average.
Some candidates report four weeks. Others report six weeks, or two months. After the final loop, some candidates report contact within two to three days.
Others report waiting more than two weeks with no update. Zoox does not publish a wait time for any single stage. A gap of one to two weeks after a round is common, and it is not a signal about your result.
Timeline by Stage
Only the totals and the post-loop numbers come from candidate reports. The per-stage waits below are typical for a company of this size, not confirmed.
| Stage | Typical wait | What is happening |
|---|---|---|
| Application | One to four weeks | A recruiter reviews it; some report months before any first contact |
| After the recruiter screen | A few days to two weeks | The recruiter books the technical phone screen with an engineer |
| After the technical phone screen | One to two weeks | The interviewer writes feedback; the team decides on a loop |
| Take-home, some roles | 72 hours to submit | Some report a take-home with a 20 minute presentation, due in 72 hours |
| After the onsite loop | Two days to three weeks | Interviewers compare notes; the recruiter may wait for every candidate |
| Offer | A few days | The recruiter prepares the offer details |
One candidate wrote that an offer usually arrives within two to three days of the final round. Another waited a full week and then received a rejection email. Recruiters sometimes say they are still interviewing others for the same team.
That is the most common reason for a long wait. Ask your recruiter for a date, and get it in writing.
Does Zoox Send Rejection Emails?
Candidates report both outcomes. One candidate reported a rejection email about a week after the loop. Another reported no official rejection at all, after weeks of silence.
So rejection contact at Zoox is not consistent. Written feedback on your rounds is rare, as at most companies.
Candidates also describe very different recruiter experiences. Some call it the most transparent process they have had. Others report long gaps and changed interview times.
The recruiter assigned to your role matters more than any company policy.
A rejection at Zoox is often about depth in one area. Zoox builds robotaxis, which are self-driving vehicles that carry passengers with no driver. The rounds test C++, debugging, and applied math more than a web company would.
See What is the Zoox interview process like? for the round list. Ask the recruiter which round was weakest.
How to Follow Up
Send one short email to your recruiter. Wait one full week past the date they gave you. If they gave no date, wait ten business days.
Hi [Name], thank you again for the onsite on [date]. I enjoyed the debugging round and the discussion about sensor data. I am still very interested in the [role] position and wanted to ask about next steps. Please tell me if you need anything else from me.
Four sentences is enough. One follow-up is fine, and a second one a week later is fine. A third is not.
Can You Reapply, and How Soon?
Zoox does not publish a reapply rule. One candidate report says Zoox has hired people nine to twelve months after an earlier rejection. Six to twelve months is typical for companies of this size, not confirmed.
Recruiters keep notes, so a second application should show something new.
Roles here differ a lot from each other. A rejection from a robotics team does not block an infrastructure role.
Ask your recruiter directly in your reply to the rejection. Many will tell you the waiting period and the weakness they saw.
What to Wear
Most Zoox interviews are on video. Candidates report live coding in shared editors such as CoderPad, and full loops held remotely.
For video, wear a plain collared shirt or a clean top in one color. Check your camera, light, and background before the call.
Some loops are held in person at the Foster City office in California. For that day, wear clean casual clothes, such as a shirt and dark jeans.
No suit. Engineers here dress casually, and a suit will not match what people wear.
How to Prepare
- Know the rounds before you wait. What is the Zoox interview process like? explains what each gap between stages is for.
- Use the wait for the design round. What to expect in the Zoox system design interview covers the topics that come after the phone screen.
- Prepare the manager round early. Top Zoox behavioral interview questions lists the questions you will get.
- Practice while you wait. Grokking the Coding Interview and Grokking the System Design Interview cover the two technical rounds.
