How to Answer: "Why Do You Want to Work at CoreWeave?"

The best answer connects CoreWeave's infrastructure to your own work. CoreWeave builds a cloud made for AI. A cloud is a large pool of computers that customers rent over the internet.

CoreWeave's version is built around GPUs, the chips that train and run AI models. Its customers are AI labs and large companies.

A strong answer proves three things. You understand what CoreWeave sells, and you have owned real systems and their failures. You also want to work on infrastructure, not only on models.

What the Interviewer Listens For

1. Real product knowledge. CoreWeave sells GPU servers with fast networking between them. It runs them with Kubernetes, the open source system that schedules containers on many machines. CoreWeave runs Kubernetes directly on the hardware, without a virtual machine layer.

It also offers SUNK, which runs Slurm on Kubernetes. Slurm is the job scheduler most research labs use for large training runs. Naming one of these shows you did real research.

2. Ownership evidence. CoreWeave's culture page asks for people who "take ownership" of their work. Interviewers want stories where you built and ran a system from design to production. A story about an outage you owned and fixed is strong proof.

3. Reliability focus. A large training job can run on thousands of GPUs for weeks. One failed part can stop the whole job.

CoreWeave talks in public about goodput. Goodput is the share of time the hardware spends on useful training work. Show that you care about failures, not only about features.

4. Comfort with fast change. Current employees describe fast growth and short average tenure. The culture page asks people to "challenge the status quo" and "execute with excellence". Give evidence that you did good work while the plan around you changed.

A Three Part Structure

Part 1: The product reason (2 to 3 sentences). Say what draws you to AI infrastructure. Include evidence, such as a cluster you ran or a scheduler you built.

Part 2: Your proof (2 to 3 sentences). Describe one system you owned end to end. Include a number.

Part 3: The direction (1 to 2 sentences). Say what you want to build at CoreWeave.

Sample Answer

"I want to work at CoreWeave because the hardest problems in AI right now are in the infrastructure, not in the model code. At my current company I run the Kubernetes clusters that serve our recommendation models. I own the whole path: node provisioning, the GPU device plugins, autoscaling, and on-call. Last year I rebuilt our job scheduling so training jobs could not be spread across slow network links. That cut the time to train our main model by about 30 percent. CoreWeave does that work for the largest training runs in the world, on hardware I cannot get anywhere else. I want to build the scheduling and reliability layer that keeps those jobs running."

This answer works because every claim has proof. The product interest comes with a real system.

The ownership claim comes with a number. The direction is specific to CoreWeave's product.

Where the Question Appears

Expect the motivation question in the recruiter screen first. Candidates report it again in the hiring manager call. The second version asks for more evidence, not more enthusiasm.

Keep the same core answer both times. Add one new proof point in the later round, such as a detail from CoreWeave's documentation or engineering blog. Interviewers compare notes, and a story that changes between rounds loses trust.

Common Mistakes

  • Generic AI excitement. An answer that fits any AI company fails here. CoreWeave is an infrastructure company, and the answer must show interest in servers, networks, and schedulers.
  • Calling it a GPU rental business. CoreWeave's own material stresses its software: Kubernetes on bare metal, SUNK, fast model loading, and observability. Show that you know the software side.
  • No reliability story. Interviewers reward candidates who talk about failures and on-call. An answer with only launches and no incidents is incomplete.
  • Ignoring the pace. Employees and candidates describe a fast, sometimes disorganized environment. Say why you want that, with evidence from your own history.
