How to Answer: "Why Do You Want to Work at Infosys?"

The strongest answer names what Infosys actually does and connects it to work you have already done. Infosys is an information technology and consulting company that delivers projects for large enterprise clients across banking, retail, manufacturing, and healthcare. Its published offerings include Infosys Topaz for artificial intelligence work and Infosys Cobalt for cloud work.

A weak answer praises the brand in general terms, while a strong answer proves three things: you know what the company sells, you are prepared for client facing project work, and you intend to grow through its training system.

What the Interviewer Listens For

1. Real knowledge of the business. Infosys works on enterprise transformation programs rather than a single consumer product, so naming one concrete offering, such as Topaz or Cobalt, separates you from the many candidates who describe Infosys only as a large company.

2. Fit with the stated values. Infosys publishes its values under the name C-LIFE, which stands for Client Value, Leadership by Example, Integrity and Transparency, Fairness, and Excellence. An answer that shows client focus or personal integrity in a real situation matches what the company says about itself.

3. Commitment to learning. Infosys invests heavily in training, including a residential foundation program at the Global Education Center in Mysuru and the Infosys Springboard digital learning platform. Saying that you want structured training, and giving evidence that you learn quickly, fits the company's own description of how it develops people.

4. Practical flexibility. Client projects decide locations, technologies, and sometimes working hours, which means interviewers listen for a candidate who accepts that reality without complaint and says so directly.

A Three Part Structure

Part 1: The company hook (2 to 3 sentences). Say what draws you to enterprise technology work, and name one Infosys offering or value you researched.

Part 2: Your proof (2 to 3 sentences). Describe one project or task you completed, and include a number that shows the result.

Part 3: The direction (1 to 2 sentences). Say what you want to build or learn in your first year at Infosys.

Sample Answer

"I want to work at Infosys because I want to build software that large organizations actually run every day. In my final year I built an attendance system for my department in Java with a MySQL database. I reduced a manual process that took our office staff about three hours a week to about twenty minutes. Working on that project taught me that clean requirements matter more than clever code, which is why client facing delivery interests me. I read about Infosys Topaz and the artificial intelligence work being delivered for enterprise clients, and I want to learn that area properly through the foundation training. My goal in the first year is to become dependable on a live project, not just certified."

This answer works because every claim has support: the interest in the company comes with a named offering, and the ability claim comes with a number. The ambition is modest and specific, which is what a delivery organization wants to hear.

Where the Question Appears

The question appears most often in the HR round, and sometimes at the start of the technical interview. Candidates also report the related questions in the same conversation: whether you will relocate, whether you can work in shifts, and where you see your career going. Keep one core answer and use it consistently, because interviewers share feedback and a story that changes between rounds loses credibility. The full sequence of rounds is described in the Infosys interview process.

Common Mistakes

  • Calling it your dream company. This phrase appears in almost every answer, which means it gives the interviewer no information, so replace it with one researched detail.
  • Describing Infosys only by size. An answer built on reputation alone fits any large employer, and interviewers hear it many times a day.
  • Refusing relocation or shifts. Project allocation decides location and hours, so an inflexible answer here creates a real problem for the interviewer.
  • Treating the role as a backup. Candidates who say they are waiting for a product company answer honestly but badly, and if that is your position, focus on what this role gives you instead.
  • Skipping the eligibility homework. If you do not know which track you applied for, the answer sounds generic, and the tracks and their tests are compared in the Infosys online test pattern.

How to Prepare

  • Research for thirty minutes. Read the Infosys services pages and note two offerings and one value you can name accurately.
  • Write one proof story with a number. Any measurable result works: hours saved, marks improved, users served.
  • Match a value to a real situation. Pick one C-LIFE value and prepare a short story where you behaved that way.
  • Practice the delivery. Grokking Modern Behavioral Interview shows how to build answers on evidence rather than enthusiasm.
  • Plan for the waiting period. The motivation answer often precedes a long silence, so read how long Infosys takes to respond before you start following up.
