How to Answer: "Why Do You Want to Work at Revolut?"
"Why do you want to work at Revolut?" is a test of fit with a fast and demanding culture. A good answer does three things. It names a specific Revolut product you care about, such as multi-currency accounts or trading. It gives evidence from your own work that matches Revolut's published values. It shows that you understand the pace and want it. Interviewers hear generic praise every day, so specifics decide the result.
Some context helps. Revolut is a financial technology company. Its app combines bank accounts, currency exchange, cards, savings, and stock trading in one product. The company publishes five values: Never Settle, Dream Team, Think Deeper, Get It Done, and Deliver WOW. Interviewers use these values as a scoring guide. Your answer should show at least one value with real evidence. The question usually appears in the recruiter screen and again in the final culture round.
What the Interviewer Listens For
- Product contact. You have used the app, and you can name one detail you noticed. A candidate who exchanged currencies in the app speaks with more authority than one who read a blog post.
- Comfort with the pace. Revolut is open about its demanding culture. The interviewer wants proof that you have worked at speed before and enjoyed it.
- Ownership. Revolut teams stay small, and one engineer often owns a feature end to end. Stories where you led a project from idea to release match this expectation.
- A reason for fintech. Money software must be correct, audited, and available. Say why that kind of engineering interests you.
A Three-Part Structure
Part 1: The reason (2 to 3 sentences). Name the product area that interests you. Add one concrete observation from using the app or studying it.
Part 2: Your evidence (3 to 4 sentences). Describe work you owned that matches a Revolut value. Use numbers: users, transactions, latency, or time saved.
Part 3: The direction (1 to 2 sentences). Say what you want to work on at Revolut and why your evidence supports that goal.
Sample Answer
"I want to work at Revolut because it treats one app as a full replacement for a bank, and I use it that way. I hold three currencies in my account and exchange between them every month. In my current job I built a payments reconciliation service that matches about 200,000 transactions a day. That work taught me how ledgers, retries, and idempotency keep money correct when systems fail. I want to apply those skills at a company where the ledger is the product. I also want the pace: I release code weekly now, and I want a team that expects that. Your Get It Done value describes how I already work."
Notice the pattern. Product contact, one owned system with a number, a matching value, and a clear direction.
Keep the spoken version under ninety seconds. A long motivation answer takes time away from your evidence. If the interviewer wants more, they will ask a follow-up question. Prepare one extra detail for that follow-up, such as a second project or a second product observation.
Common Mistakes
- Generic praise. "Revolut is innovative and growing" fits any fintech company. It proves no research.
- No product contact. The app is free to download. Arriving without having used it reads as low effort.
- Ignoring the culture. Revolut describes its own pace as intense. An answer that asks for slow, stable work contradicts the role.
- Money as the only reason. Compensation and brand are real motivators, but they say nothing about fit. Lead with the work.
- Reciting the values without evidence. Naming all five values proves you read the website. One value with a real story proves you live it.
