What Is the Dress Code at Dell? Office, Remote, and Interview
Dell does not publish a companywide dress code for the public. Employees and candidates describe day to day wear as casual to business casual, with smarter clothes only for customer meetings and senior events.
In plain terms, most Dell engineers wear jeans and a plain shirt. Nobody wears a suit to a normal day at a Dell office.
Two things change the answer. One is your team, because sales and consulting meet customers and dress up more. The other is your country, since Dell offices in some regions are more formal than others.
What to Wear, by Situation
| Situation | What people wear |
|---|---|
| Normal office day | Jeans or chinos, plain shirt or polo, trainers |
| Working from home | Whatever you like, with a clean top for calls |
| Team meeting on video | Collared shirt or plain top, no logo |
| Customer or partner meeting | Business casual, add a blazer |
| Senior or executive meeting | Business formal, suit optional |
| Video interview | Business casual on top |
| Onsite interview | Business casual, one level above the team |
| First day or internship start | Business casual until you see the team |
Business Casual, Defined
Business casual means smart clothes without a suit. It is the safe middle choice.
For men, that is chinos or dark trousers with a button down shirt or a plain polo. Add a blazer if you want to look one level smarter.
For women, that is trousers, a skirt or a simple dress with a blouse. A cardigan or blazer works the same way.
Shoes should be clean and closed. Flip flops and sports kit are the two items people regret.
What to Wear to a Dell Interview
Dress one level above the team you are joining. If the team wears jeans, you wear business casual.
That single rule handles almost every case. You look like you took the day seriously without looking out of place.
Two exceptions. Sales, consulting and executive roles lean formal, so a suit is reasonable there. Factory and lab roles may have safety rules, so ask the recruiter before you arrive.
If you are unsure, ask your recruiter directly. Recruiters answer this question every week and nobody thinks less of you for asking.
There is a separate page with more detail on the dress code for a Dell interview.
Video Interviews and Remote Work
Only your top half is visible, so spend your care there. A collared shirt or a plain solid top reads well on camera.
Avoid thin stripes and small checks. They flicker on video and pull attention away from your face.
Still wear real trousers. You may need to stand up, and people do.
Keep the background plain and put your light in front of you, not behind you.
What to Avoid
- Clothes with large logos. A competitor's logo is the worst version of this.
- Anything creased. A clean plain shirt reads better than a smart creased one.
- Strong scent. Offices are shared and many people react to it.
- Noisy jewellery. On a video call the microphone picks up every knock.
- Brand new shoes on an onsite day. Comfort matters when the day runs six hours.
How to Check Before Your First Day
Ask your recruiter or your new manager one direct question. "What do people on this team usually wear?"
Look at the team's public photos on Dell's careers pages. They show real offices.
On day one, watch what your team wears and match it from day two. That is the whole system.

How to Prepare
- Lay the outfit out the night before. Check it for stains, loose buttons and creases in daylight.
- Test it on camera. Sit where you will sit and take a screenshot. Patterns that look fine in the room can look bad on video.
- Ask the recruiter about anything unusual. Lab visits, factory tours and customer meetings all have their own rules.
- Spend the rest of your time on the content. Clothes get you to neutral. The answers get you the offer. Work through Grokking the Coding Interview for the technical rounds.
- Prepare your stories. Grokking the Modern Behavioral Interview covers the questions Dell asks about teamwork and ownership.
- Do one full rehearsal in the clothes. A mock interview in your interview outfit removes the last surprise.
