What Is the Tech Mahindra Interview Process Like? (Round by Round)

Candidates report five steps in the Tech Mahindra fresher process. The first three are online tests taken in sequence: an aptitude and essay test, a technical and psychometric test, and an AI evaluated communication test. Candidates who clear all three are called for a technical interview, and then for an HR interview.

Experienced candidates report a different path, with a recruiter screening, two or three technical rounds, a client round, and an HR round. Reported waits between stages run from a few days to about two weeks, so plan for several weeks in total.

Quick Overview

StageFormatWhat is evaluated
1. Aptitude and essay testAbout 60 minutes, onlineQuantitative ability, logical ability, English, written expression
2. Technical and psychometric testAbout 90 minutes, onlineProgramming, computer science subjects, two coding problems, work personality
3. Communication testAbout 20 minutes, AI evaluatedPronunciation, grammar, listening, spoken fluency
4. Technical interviewReported at about 15 to 20 minutesProjects, core subjects, basic coding logic
5. HR interviewReported at about 5 to 10 minutesMotivation, relocation, cultural fit

Stage 1: Aptitude and Essay Test

The first test mixes quantitative ability, logical ability, and English. Candidates report about twelve questions in each part, with a short time limit on each part. An essay of up to about 200 words follows, written on one general topic chosen from two or three offered. The essay is graded on grammar, structure, and clarity, not on the opinion you take.

Stage 2: Technical and Psychometric Test

This test has several parts inside one session of about 90 minutes. Candidates report multiple choice questions on programming and on computer science subjects, meaning operating systems, databases, computer networks, and data structures. Two coding problems follow, reported at about 45 minutes for both.

Reported problems are at the easier end, such as converting a decimal number to binary or finding the longest palindromic substring. A personality questionnaire of about 50 to 72 statements completes the session. The full section list is in the Tech Mahindra assessment test pattern.

Stage 3: Communication Test

The third test is an AI evaluated speaking test, reported by candidates as a conversational assessment of about 20 minutes. Tasks reported include reading sentences aloud, repeating phrases, correcting errors, answering comprehension questions, and speaking for a minute on a general topic. Candidates report it as an elimination gate, so treat it as a real round. Speak clearly into the microphone and finish each answer rather than stopping halfway.

Stage 4: Technical Interview

The technical interview is usually a single conversation with one interviewer, reported at about 15 to 20 minutes. Candidates report an introduction, then questions about the projects on the resume. Reported subjects are object oriented programming, SQL joins, operating systems, computer networks, and the software development life cycle.

Coding questions reported here are small and logic based, such as checking anagrams or writing a palindrome program. Depth matters more than breadth, because the interviewer works through your resume point by point.

Stage 5: HR Interview

The HR round is short, at about 5 to 10 minutes in several fresher accounts. Expect questions about what you know about the company, your career goals, your willingness to relocate, and your shift preference. Prepare the motivation question properly, because it is the question HR interviewers ask first. The structure and a sample answer are in how to answer why Tech Mahindra.

The Experienced Candidate Path

Lateral candidates report a shorter and more conversational loop. One reported sequence is a recruiter screening, then two or three technical rounds of about 30 minutes each, then a client round, then an HR round. The client round is the part freshers never see.

In that round, people from the client team ask about your experience and about the technology stack used on that account. Reported technical topics for backend roles include Java collections, multi threading, Spring Boot, exception handling, and design patterns.

The Supercoders Route

Tech Mahindra also runs a coding first hiring challenge under the Supercoders name. Reports describe it as a route reached from the standard drive. Candidates who do well in the coding part are invited to an advanced coding test, and then to a technical interview.

One candidate reported two problem statements in that test, with the result in about two or three days. The academic bar for this challenge is higher than the standard one, so read the notification before you apply.

Timeline and Decision

Reported waits vary widely. Candidates report about one week for online test results, and about fifteen days between the online phase and the interview call. Results after the technical interview are reported at about one week, and the final result at about ten days after the HR round.

Lateral candidates report longer waits, including background verification. The details are collected in how long it takes to hear back.

Questions to Ask Them

Every interview ends with time for your questions. Ask which account or project the role belongs to, because in a services company that decides your daily work. Ask which technologies the account uses now, and what the training period contains for a new joiner.

Ask how the company moves people between accounts. These questions also help you avoid a surprise after joining.

How to Prepare

  • Clear the online tests first. They eliminate most candidates, so follow the section plan in the assessment test pattern.
  • Practice small coding problems under time. Grokking the Coding Interview teaches the patterns behind string and array questions.
  • Revise the core subjects. Operating systems, databases, and networks appear in both the test and the interview.
  • Know your own projects. Every reported technical interview starts from the resume, so prepare one project in depth.
  • Practice the HR answers out loud. Grokking Modern Behavioral Interview shows how to build answers on evidence.
