What Is the Flipkart Interview Process Like? (Round by Round)

Candidates report three to five rounds at Flipkart, and the machine coding round defines the loop. Experienced candidates report a machine coding round of 90 to 120 minutes, a problem solving round on data structures of 60 to 90 minutes, and a hiring manager round of about 45 minutes. Candidates at mid and senior levels also report a separate system design round.

Freshers and junior off-campus candidates report an online assessment first, usually 90 minutes with three coding problems. Reported end to end time is about two to four weeks, and several candidates report that all interview rounds were scheduled inside a single week.

Stage 1: Online Assessment

Candidates for junior and campus roles report an online assessment before any interview. Reports name more than one platform, including SHL and Unstop, so the platform varies by hiring drive. The usual format is 90 minutes with three problems at medium to hard difficulty.

Reported topics include arrays, strings, trees, graphs, dynamic programming, and greedy methods. Candidates report that two complete solutions are often enough to receive an interview call.

One report warns that the assessment link cannot be reopened once you start it. Plan a quiet 90 minutes before you click. If this round is new to you, read what an online technical assessment involves. Experienced candidates usually skip this stage and begin with a screening call or the machine coding round.

Stage 2: Machine Coding Round

This is the round Flipkart is known for in India. A machine coding round is a timed session where you build a small working program, usually a console application, and submit code that compiles and runs. Candidates report 90 to 120 minutes, and some senior candidates report a longer session. Several reports say you use your own laptop and your own editor.

Reported problems include a multi-level cache system with get, set, and statistics commands, a food ordering system, a ride offer and ride share feature, an expense splitting application, and a library system with issue, return, and fine rules. The graded qualities are consistent across reports: the program must run, the classes must be separated sensibly, and a new requirement must be possible without a rewrite.

Candidates give the same advice repeatedly. Finish the required features first, and attempt the bonus features only after that.

Stage 3: Problem Solving and Data Structures

A live round of 60 to 90 minutes on algorithms. Candidates report one to four questions at medium to hard difficulty. Reported examples include tree problems, interval and scheduling problems, queue problems, and hash map problems.

Some reports describe writing code in a shared document instead of running it, so your code must read correctly without a compiler. Interviewers ask for the time and space cost of every solution.

Stage 4: System Design Round

Mid-level and senior candidates report a dedicated design round of about 90 minutes, and some reports describe a longer session. Reported questions include a flight booking system, a rate limiter designed both with and without Redis, and a notification service. Interviewers ask for detail on one part of the design until you reach the limit of what you know. The full topic list is in the Flipkart system design interview.

Stage 5: Hiring Manager Round

About 45 minutes with the manager who owns the team. Candidates report questions on past projects, scaling decisions, disagreement with teammates, and the reason for joining. Flipkart states its values publicly: audacity, bias for action, and customer first, with integrity and inclusion under all of them. Prepare the motivation question on its own, using how to answer why Flipkart.

How the Campus Path Differs

On-campus candidates report the same online assessment, followed by two technical rounds and one HR or managerial round. Machine coding appears less often for freshers than for experienced candidates. The technical questions stay algorithmic, and the final round covers projects, strengths, and the reason for choosing Flipkart.

Timeline and Decision

Flipkart's careers page describes seven stages, from application through a hiring committee review to the offer. The committee step means your interviewers do not decide alone. Candidates report a wide range of waits, because some receive a result the same day after a round and others wait for weeks. The reported waits per stage are in how long it takes to hear back.

Questions to Ask Them

Each round ends with a few minutes for your questions. Ask which team you would join and what it owns, and ask how design documents are reviewed and who signs them. Ask how the team prepares for large sale events, because that work affects planning through the year. A specific question proves you researched the company.

How to Prepare

  • Practice machine coding against a clock. Grokking the Object Oriented Design Interview teaches the class structures these problems reward.
  • Drill patterns, not single problems. Grokking the Coding Interview covers the patterns behind the reported algorithm questions.
  • Rehearse one design out loud. The design round rewards a spoken walkthrough, so practice explaining one full design from requirements to trade-offs.
  • Write your project stories down. The hiring manager round examines decisions, alternatives, and results, so prepare numbers.
