Infosys job levels run from JL3 to JL8. JL is short for job level, the number rises as you become more senior, and there are eight steps on the engineering path, each with its own job title.

The letter is the part people misread. Inside one level, B is the lower half and A is the upper half, so JL3B sits below JL3A and JL6B sits below JL6A.

Infosys does not publish this level system on its careers site. It appears in your offer letter, in internal tools, and on public pay aggregators, which is why much of what circulates about it is guesswork.

Infosys publishes no level matrix, so this mapping was assembled from Infosys offer letters, job postings carrying these exact titles, the Infosys level list on levels.fyi, and employee reports. Treat the years of experience as a central band rather than a rule, because a lateral hire is leveled on the interview rather than on tenure. A lateral hire is someone joining from another company with experience, unlike a fresher, who joins straight out of college.

How to Read an Infosys Job Level

Levels JL1 and JL2 do exist, but employee reports place them in business process management roles such as Operations Executive, so the engineering path starts at JL3.

One piece of vocabulary matters. Employees call a change of designation inside the same level a progression and a move to the next level a promotion, and the promotion carries the larger increase.

JL3B: Systems Engineer

JL3B is the entry level, and Systems Engineer is the designation most freshers hold once training ends. Fresher offer letters show the role as Systems Engineer Trainee at level 3 before confirmation.

A Systems Engineer owns assigned tasks: writing and testing code, fixing defects, and running one module with a more senior engineer reviewing the work. The scope is the task you were given.

Your level is set by the interview, so learn the format first. Our answer on the Infosys interview process round by round sets out each stage.

JL3A: Senior Systems Engineer

JL3A is Senior Systems Engineer, usually reached after two to three years at JL3B. The work looks similar from the outside, and what changes is supervision.

A Senior Systems Engineer completes a module end to end without someone checking each step, and often guides a new joiner through their first assignment. The difference from JL3B is independence, not harder code.

JL4: Technology Analyst

JL4 is Technology Analyst, the mid-level engineer and the level the largest number of tenured Infosys engineers hold. Four to eight years of experience is the usual band.

A Technology Analyst owns a feature or a part of an application end to end: the design, the code, the testing, and the handover to the client's own team. The difference from JL3A is scope rather than coding skill, because a Senior Systems Engineer completes what was assigned while a Technology Analyst decides how a part gets built.

Movement into JL4 happens through a rating-based promotion or an internal job posting, which is a vacancy Infosys advertises to its own employees first. Employee reports put the usual wait between eighteen months and three years.

JL5: Technology Lead

JL5 is Technology Lead, the senior individual contributor level, and six or more years of experience is typical.

A Technology Lead owns the technical decisions for a small team working on a module or an application. They review code and designs, choose the approach, and answer to the delivery manager for what the team produces technically.

The difference from JL4 is other people's output: a Technology Lead answers for what several engineers deliver, not only for personal work.

Infosys hires into JL4 and JL5 from outside as well, and those interviews still include a coding round. Working through coding patterns rather than scattered problems is the highest value preparation for that round, at a fresher drive and at a lateral interview alike.

JL6B and JL6A: The Technology Architect Levels

JL6 offers two kinds of role and you pick one: the architecture roles stay technical, while project and delivery management moves to owning people, schedules, and the client relationship.

JL6B carries the titles Technology Architect and Project Manager, usually with nine to fourteen years of experience. A Technology Architect owns the architecture of one application or client account.

JL6A is Senior Technology Architect, usually with twelve or more years, and its scope is a service line or a large account.

The number of JL6 positions is set by what the accounts need, not by how many engineers are ready for one, so the wait at JL5 is often the longest of a career at Infosys.

JL7 and JL8: Delivery Manager and Above

JL7 covers titles such as Delivery Manager, Group Project Manager, and Principal Technology Architect, with sixteen or more years of experience reported.

JL8 is the executive level, covering Associate Vice President and the titles above it. Very few engineers reach either level.

How Infosys Pay Works

Infosys pay has a fixed part and a variable part, and the variable part is why your bank credit looks small. The variable part depends on company performance, unit performance, and your own rating, and Infosys pays it quarterly rather than monthly. CTC means cost to company, the headline annual number on an Indian offer letter, and your monthly credit sits below CTC divided by twelve.

levels.fyi publishes Infosys pay by job level for India, and the reported figures rise steeply at JL5. LPA means lakh per annum, and one lakh is 100,000 rupees. The median reported total pay there is about 5.8 LPA at JL3B, about 6.4 LPA at JL3A, about 8.8 LPA at JL4, and about 15.3 LPA at JL5. Sample sizes above JL5 are small enough that the senior figures stop being meaningful. Check levels.fyi and AmbitionBox for current numbers before any offer conversation, because both are self-reported and both move.

Your fresher package depends on the hiring track more than on the level. Systems Engineer pays the least of the three tracks, Digital Specialist Engineer pays more, and Specialist Programmer pays the most while running the hardest selection test.

How Infosys Levels Compare to TCS, Wipro, Cognizant, and Accenture

The comparison worth having is not with Google or Meta, where the work and the pay scale differ too much, but with the other large Indian services firms, which is where most engineers actually move.

This mapping is approximate, and that is a statement about the companies rather than a hedge. Each firm sets its own level widths, the same title means different work on different accounts, and a lateral offer is leveled on your interview rather than on the grade you hold today. Compare the row, not the code.

Accenture is the one column where the numbers fall as seniority rises.

Frequently asked questions

What is JL4 in Infosys? JL4 is the Technology Analyst level, the mid-level engineer at Infosys. A Technology Analyst owns a feature or an application part end to end, including its design and the handover to the client's team. Four to eight years of experience is usual, and levels.fyi reports a median total pay near 8.8 LPA at this level in India.

What is the difference between JL3A and JL3B at Infosys? JL3B is the lower half of level 3 and JL3A is the upper half, so JL3A is the more senior of the two. JL3B is Systems Engineer and JL3A is Senior Systems Engineer, usually reached after two to three years.

What is JL5 in Infosys? JL5 is Technology Lead, the senior individual contributor level. A Technology Lead owns the technical decisions for a small team and answers for what that team delivers, not only for personal output. Six or more years of experience is typical, and levels.fyi reports a median total pay near 15.3 LPA.

How many job levels does Infosys have? Eight on the engineering path: JL3B, JL3A, JL4, JL5, JL6B, JL6A, JL7, and JL8. Levels JL1 and JL2 exist but are used for business process roles, so engineers start at JL3.

Does Infosys have a terminal level? Not an official one. A terminal level is a level you can hold for an entire career with no pressure to be promoted, and Infosys publishes nothing of the kind. Employee reports describe JL4 Technology Analyst as the level where most engineers stay longest, because the next step needs a team to lead and a position to fill.

How much does Infosys pay a fresher? That depends on the hiring track more than on the level. Systems Engineer is the standard track and pays the least, Digital Specialist Engineer pays more, and Specialist Programmer pays the most. Check levels.fyi and AmbitionBox for current figures.

Is Infosys JL6 the same as a senior engineer at Google? No, and the comparison will mislead you. Infosys JL6 is Technology Architect or Project Manager, usually with nine or more years of experience, and the pay scale is nothing like a product company's. The managerial and HR rounds also carry weight in an Infosys level decision, so prepare the reason you want to work at Infosys as carefully as the coding round.

The courses which have "grokking" before them, are exceptionally well put together! These courses magically condense 3 years of CS in short bite-size courses and lectures (I have tried Grokking System Design Interview, OODI, and Coding patterns). The Grokking courses are godsent, to be honest.

ABHISHEK GUPTA

My offer from the top tech company would not have been possible without Grokking System Design. Many thanks!!

Eric

I've completed my first pass of "grokking the System Design Interview" and I can say this was an excellent use of money and time. I've grown as a developer and now know the secrets of how to build these really giant internet systems.
